Points to this one for not going where I thought it would. Caves, ancient Indians, the American West: I figured this was gonna be troglodytes or saber-tooth tigers or something.

But honestly, the direction it goes in is kinda baffling. I’m still not super clear what the titular anamoly was or how it worked. This seems to be one in a series, so maybe it’s setting up the rest. The book is fast-paced enough that you don’t notice, but it’s just a little messy.

This was a big no for me. The only reason I picked this up is because its on so many lists of best horror. There was barely anything horror related in here imo, it was more like an action/adventure story. Its like Indiana Jones and The DaVinci Code combined. I am not interested in either of those, so expecting a horror & getting that is not what I wanted. I can see how people who are into history would like this, it just wasnt for me (and I still dont know how this is even mentioned in any horror list...)

Almost DNF'd it several times, but managed to complete it. First 2/3rds of it are very slow with minor suspense, horror, plot or character development. The last 1/3rd was fast and..... very strange and didn't make much sense. That third was the most plot heavy and suspense/horror/gore of the book.

Didn't care for any of the characters. They were very much 2d characters that didn't have any other development besides gaining a little crazy and wishing they could prove/show the world what they've gone through but all of the factors went against them.

Alien meets Indian Jones meets Dan Brown meets "coming to a theater near you" in this interesting debut by screenwriter Michael Rutger. There is a nice mix of dialogue, humor, and not very scary adventure in this fast paced book which leads me to believe that it may have been written with the intent of becoming a movie. This was a fun summer read.

Man, oh man. What a novel. This isn't a good book, but it is entertaining. It requires a lot of suspension of disbelief, and I wish it had more creepy moments. It was definitely more action/adventure horror (think Congo but less racist), which meant that it tended to go for action instead of the horror.

And the end. Oh, the end.
Spoiler PTERODACTYLS AND UNICORNS. REALLY RUTGER. WHAT.

Overall, I recommend this if you're look for a fun, quick read. Don't expect wonders, but you might find it entertaining.

This fast paced thriller kept me at the edge of my seat. I tried, but I couldn’t put it down.

This book is, in one word, silly. And I am not quite sure "silly" is what the author was going for.

This is the book equivalent of a movie like Sharknado: inane and oftentimes moronic, yet strangely compelling.
