3.9 AVERAGE

For a trope that is not one of my favorites (“wronged” when younger and seeking revenge), this one was surprisingly good. Raff and Posie were both fighters, and Posie held onto her convictions even in the face of cruelty from the one person she still loved. Raff’s evolution was well-done and not sped through, and the love (of friendship and years of being close and family) between those two and Pax was evident. Posie had grit and backbone, and absolutely held her own.

”Fuck, how I've missed this. We were only teenagers, but I knew then that I was going to spend the rest of my life between her thighs. She was it for me.”

What a story. I am not normally one for a second chance romance but make it dark romance and I am there. I was captured by how unhinged Rafferty was, particularly when it came to making Posie pay for what she did in the past. Watching the chaos around her, Posie sometimes felt like a bit of an inanimate character. She often let things happen to and around her without really reaching out to change the course of action. The emotional energy vibrates off the pages, the push-pull, the fine line between longing and toxicity, love and hate. It makes for a volatile and tangled romance, but one that is all about love in the end. Posie was forced to break, in order to protect the person they both love most in the world. The ending for this story made me accept everything that Raff had put Posie through, their joint suffering could have been shortened and dealt with. Then the inescapable chemistry between the two of them could have been making them both happy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5/5! Love the title, love the cover, love the characters.

I wanted to hug these characters so badly. Posie, Rafferty and Pax all needed giant bear hugs. My heart was hurting throughout this book. Raff had so much anger in him, it was blinding him. He felt Posie was at fault for things that happened in his past and made a plan to get his revenge on the girl he once loved. Posie my goodness, she was such a loyal and loving character. The way she had her best friends back, knowing what it would cost her. She’s amazing. She loved Raff even when he was trying to make her hate him. She knew she couldn’t give up on him, I don’t think it makes her weak I think it makes her incredibly strong. I really hope we get a story about Pax. I need that beautiful broken boy to get some happiness in his life.
Also hoping we get a book for Rome and Lark as there was definitely some tension between the two of them.

Kayleigh King's best writing to date. Emotionally immersive, complex, raw and emotional- this is a story about a complicated and unbreakable love, the tenacity of the human spirit, the grounding that is the human heart's capacity to love, and second chances that are hard fought but worth the battle. And battle they do- this is not an easy love story, it's heart wrenching and devastating in places, but at it's core is optimism and home. Hope that our hearts will find its way to the one it belongs to, hope that we'll find something beautiful within our own brokenness. Within the darkness that dwells in us all. And that's just what Rafferty and Posie do- the chemistry, the tension, the young love drama! The emotional energy vibrates off the pages, the push-pull, the fine line between longing and toxicity, love and hate. It makes for a volatile and tangled romance, but one that is all about love in the end. One about selflessness, unconditional love, and sacrifice...a story about the hardest part of truly loving someone: forgiveness. But what an epic love they have- even if you'll shattered long the way. It's a love that only they can share, a love only they can find. A love that is truly their own.

I’m not a reviewer so I’m just gonna tell you this is absolutely worth the read. Their story is amazing. Second chance / bully / alpha hole…beautiful combo. I’m hoping we get a book for supporting characters!

"You're fucking mine, Butterfly. I dare someone to try and take you from me."

This is my first book by Kayleigh King and I was not disappointed at all! I was amazed at how well the characters were developed and how I was drawn into their world! I thought the writing was excellent and kept me captivated.
Once I started reading Posie and Raff's romance I was sucked in. They had such an emotional story that played with my heart. It was gritty, raw, emotional and full of love. I loved how devoted Posie was to Paxton (Rafferty's younger brother) even though it cost her her love with Rafferty.

I really loved this book! I don't know what else to say other than that haha. I am so glad I found this author because now I want to read everything written by her! Definitely check the trigger warnings before reading this book.
