I really enjoyed this book and its take on friendship and changing motivations in life. Maybe that's a little deep for a thriller, but it was thought provoking. The outcome was about what I was expecting but the path to get there was not. I couldn't put this book down!!
I was selected by Lake Union publishing thru NetGalley to review a copy of Girls' Night Out.
Girls' Night Out by Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke is a book about three girlfriends going on a girls trip to Mexico. Ashley, Natalie, and Lauren have been friends for twenty years. There was a falling out a year ago with Lauren and Ashley is hoping to rectify that with this girls trip. All three girls are dealing with the struggles of everyday life- marriages, friendships, finances, parenting, etc. The problem is Marco, he meets the girls during a yoga retreat and keeps inviting himself to spend time with the girls- since he's taking a liking to Ashley. Something happens the last night of the girls trip and Ashley ends up missing. Everyone has motive, but no one knows what really happened.
This book pulls you in right away- the story is told in multiple view points and alternates between the time before Ashley's disappearance and after Ashley's disappearance. The pace of the book is fast, but does slow down in a few spots. This book would make a great poolside read.
The publication date of this book is July 24,2018.
Goodreads Rating: 3/5 stars

Thanks Liz and Lisa! You made my flight home so enjoyable! Love your books!
I had heard a lot of good reviews and saw a lot of great press before I had read this book. I am so glad I picked it up! This was my first read by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke. I will definitely be picking up anything they write in the future! This would be a great book for the beach. It is written in each of the main characters point of view. So each chapter changes from character to character and bounces from present time to the past and vice versa. I loved the story line and the way the story weaved throughout the book. I think women will especially like this book and the way the relationships are portrayed between these best friends/ business partners. The setting is beautifully portrayed. It definitely made me want to visit Mexico with my friends! I felt like Marco was bad news from the beginning but what a story he weaved! Overall, this book had everything I like in a book; suspense, friendship, and a little naughty romance. I would definitely recommend to others! Special thanks to NetGalley and
Lake Union Publishing for the advanced copy in exchange for my opinion. Oh, and the last Chapter......WOW!!

I found this storyline to be enjoyable but not captivating. It was an easy read which meandered from beginning to end without any huge twists or straying too far from the expected or predicted pathway. I enjoyed reading this story in between a couple of longer, more complex books. It was my toasted sandwich when I wasn't ready for a whole meal.
I liked the ending, but I honestly felt like the characters had no real substance to them. I would not want to be friends with these girls, nor did I really care the outcome of their business decision.
My two questions:
1. What happened to Marco? He fled because he didn’t want to get in trouble, but this was truly a loose end. He had been cited to do some sketchy things in the past.
2. The hotel in Tulum couldn’t accommodate the three girls staying together, but they could magically accommodate the two staying for an extra week?

The brilliant duo of Fenton and Steinke bring us a suspenseful work of psychological intrigue about three ladies attempting to reconnect after events that lead to division in the group; division which caused deep wounds that have gone unhealed.
Ashley, Lauren and Natalie head to picturesque Tulum, Mexico to reconnect but while there get much more than they anticipated. I enjoyed that the story unfolded from each person's differing perspectives while offering insight into past and present events (and intentions); events that had the potential to lead to danger.
Halfway through I thought I had it all figured out. Nope! There are twists and turns that lead away from the normal course but that leave you wanting more. I absolutely LOVED this read. It was exciting, unpredictable and filled with the scaffolding of suspense.
I received an advanced review copy (ARC) of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Once I started this book, I couldn't put it down! The premise is simple enough: three friends, who have tensions running through their friendship, take a girls trip to Mexico to try to rekindle their friendship. They search for forgiveness and clarity through the lens of margaritas, sunsets and spirituality.
However, when one of them ends up missing, the pieces of the story need to fit together to figure out what happened. Told through the perspectives of the three friends, alternating between the events leading up to the disappearance and the events after the disappearance, the whole story is gradually told.
The characters are well-developed and their actions all make sense. This isn't a book where you have to suspend reality or disbelief - you can understand why everything happens. The ending is resolved in a way that makes sense as well.
The format and story was similar to Liane Moriarty; you know the big event (one of the girls is missing) but you don't know what happened until about 3/4 through the book and then the rest is spent answering the questions the reader had all along.
* Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC copy of this book

Good book
It went back and forth a lot surprising but loved it the end and knowing the real truth about it all.

Three women travel to Mexico in the hopes of rekindling their friendships, especially after two of the women have had a bit of a falling out due to their co-business venture. As you can imagine, the two women have very different ideas of what should be happening in their company (which leads to a lot of cliche moments where one woman cries about how she wasn't consulted and her feelings are hurt and the other says well business is business -- I had issues with this cliche moment, ugh).
After a hint-of-romance with a man she's just met, one of the women goes missing. Scary stuff, especially since this is something we see in the headlines. Her friends (and others) begin searching for her and the reader begins to untangle what happened. Why do I say "untangle"... well there are POV shifts and timeline shifts in this book. Some thing happen before, after, agh! Personally, I liked the concept of flipping timelines back and forth, but I don't feel that it worked perfectly in this novel.
I entered with high expectations but at the conclusion of the novel felt that everything was kind of muted, a 'just okay' reading/listening experience that I just kept wanting more from yet it never delivered. Would definitely still pick up a different book by Liz Fenton and see how I feel about that one -- there's potential!
