Amaranth and Sicarius are at it again. Their wacky adventures bring them train heists and of course blimps, excuse me dirigibles, while the science of magic invades the austere military of the kingdom. Even the Emporer is pulled into their hijinks. Worth a read!

This series continues to keep me entertained, though I found Amaranthe particularly irksome in this one. I'm all for characters with flaws, but her decisions here really made me wonder why anyone would forgive her.

I very much enjoyed reading from Akstyr's POV, though. It was really good to see him become more rounded, and it made him much, much more interesting to me. Of all the alternate POV characters these books have offered, he was by far my favorite.

The book ends on a mega cliffhanger, which annoyed me to no end, since I really, really hate cliffhangers.

Conspiracy is my second favorite book in the series, and that's at least partially due to the previous book feeling so dark. I won't lie, after book 3 I seriously considered not continuing with the series, but I decided to give it at least one more chance and am so glad that I did. Conspiracy felt like a return to the hijinks we've come to expect from Amaranthe and crew.

This was the most character development we've seen with Sicarious, ever. And it made me want more. I do have my doubts if the payoff will be worth the slow burn, but I'm invested at this point.

I also found myself enjoying Akstyr's POV more than I thought I would. Him, in a nutshell: It was important not to let people know that what they thought mattered. That gave them too much power.

Not as great as the other two. Still very enjoyable however I can not quite get into Akstyr's character. The first 30% is a bit of a drag.

I find him slightly tedious too. Luckily it gets broken up by the Amaranthe which kept me from giving it 3 stars instead of the 3.5/4 I gave it in the end (the last 30% in particular).

Finally we also get a bit more Sespian in this book aswell Yay ;)

The story in itself was different to what I expected when I read the synopsis. Love how this author can make the most funny twists without the story falling apart. With this being the first in 3 books instead of a single adventure like the initial 3, there is a lot of footing laid out for the story to evolve. I can not wait to pick up the next and enjoy the next part from Maldynado's perspective which is without a doubt one of my fave characters in this series!!!

It ended on a cliffhanger! Why do this to me :(
But seriously, very exciting plot, great character development, and a nice, descriptive writing style. Right now I cannot recommend this series enough.

Amaranthe and her group have been tasked with a special request from the emperor himself, a kidnapping in fact. Of himself. She and her crew (but mostly Amaranthe, because she is ridiculous in great ways) come up with a plan to kidnap Sespian, but kind of get distracted by other things at the same time that may or may not be related to said kidnapping of said emperor. The POV alternates between Amaranthe (of course) and Akstyr, who has troubles of his own (mainly of his own making).

It's always been a bit hard to tell where Aksytr would land if things for him got really hairy. Mostly because I dislike the thought of any of Amaranthe's group betraying her, but Aksytr has always been a bit aloof from the rest of the group, and you see more of that within this book.

The ending was a straight up cliffhanger. If you thought the last book's ending was a bit open ended then this one would be a smack to the face. On the plus side you finally get to meet Sespian again? Um.

Like always, the book is written so it's pretty much breakneck speed from start to finish, along with a myriad of quips and banter. You gain a couple of new members to the group that you end up liking,
Spoilerit's actually nice to see Amaranthe not be the sole female in the group
. 3 stars.
