An interesting look at an English man's ideas about a perfect society from over 500 years ago.
A lot of stuff is good and timely! The rest could be him only knowing the socioeconomic framework of the era in which he lives and writings of the Roman empire et al. and deciding that society and international relations must be like this always.
It can be contradictory at times (i.e., "everyone is equal" except
there are still slaves
and "we value all human lives" unless
you're terminally ill and unhappy to die
), but it's a nice to know people in the West thought some similar things at least at this time.

One can dream of man in peace and happiness, yet the ambition of seeking this ideal position dooms the very hope of freedom from the reality of individuality.

The parts about Utopia itself are rather boring as they are really just skewering the British culture of the time, but the argument being made is actually very timely, still... Five hundred years later!!

"We did not ask if he had seen any monsters, for monsters have ceased to be news. There is never any shortage of horrible creatures who prey on human beings, snatch away their food, or devour whole populations; but examples of wise social planning are not so easy to find."

Interesting to read in the present context considering that almost the complete opposite had happened; review to come.
