Not Safe for Work

As with most typical workplace “enemies” to lovers, this one didn’t deviate from the “they’re enemies because one of them (usually the FMC), walks way from a disastrous first encounter with unreasonable and unwarranted malice in her heart for the MMC” playbook. Toss in some close proximity (that may or may not include one bed) and undeniable attraction and … you get the picture. I can probably think of a half dozen books that I’ve personally read that this can describe. It’s a tried and true formula that works so long as the characters are engaging and interesting and as long as the story is a good time. This one was a decent time. I had some laughs and I appreciated the FMC being a woman of color engineer dealing with the kinds of things we run into in the workplace. 3.5 stars.

NJT can do no wrong, and no-one can convince me otherwise.

At first I was tentative bc I love her fantasy work so much, how would that translate into contemporary? And I love it all apparently.

The slow burn, tension, and banter had me laid up and unable to set this thing down. If this book doesn't make you join a meeting of the "over more chapter" club then you are doing it wrong!

Wow this book was so much fun! I really enjoyed the plot and the character development throughout. We follow tris and Rafe fellow associates that are sent to a work retreat and are forced to share a room together while on a beautiful resort in Maui. Tension grows between the two as they are forced to work together and or against each other during group activities during the retreat and find there is more than tension that bonds them. This was excellent representation of some of my favorite tropes. This is closed proximity, workplace romance, enemies to lovers and one bed trope among others. I really how Tris navigated the struggles that she goes through as a female working in an Industry that is dominated by men. She is fierce and strong and stand up for her beliefs and that is exactly what I want from the FMC. Rafe is struggling with his own passions and dreams while having to please his father by working a job he doesn’t love. Overall they help one another truly see what they want and how to overcome their struggles. Their banter was on point and it was very enjoyable book. I really enjoyed the audiobook for this one and the spice was great too! If you enjoy a great rom com with great banter and a lot of spice you will really enjoy this book. I also really loved the authors note in the beginning of the book.

Thank you NetGalley and Hachette audio for the advance copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review

Women suffering in STEM and not doing anything about it’s not for me. I hope the author had a healing journey and has made amends with her experience in STEM.
