I couldn’t finish it. I was fascinated by the theory and topic, but the odd relish the author took in describing his wonderful work with helping a man - one who had committed actual war crimes - so that said individual might have a picket fence life was disturbing. It seemed as if the author was disassociated from reality and was not capable of seeing more than a fascinating puzzle.
Furthermore, there are techniques in this book which have been discredited and the longer I read, the less validity I found in the author’s expertise.
Those going ahead, trigger warnings for: sexual assault, child murder, torture, racially based murder, and the empathy extended more to the American who committed these acts than on the victims of his crimes.

This was recommended to me by a nurse. I believe it is an especially helpful book for anyone in the medical field, probably more so than someone struggling with their mental health in my opinion.

This book took me months to read because it triggered a lot of shit for me. It was also invaluable. It breaks down a lot of peer reviewed research in a more easily digestible way. It has given me some new ideas on what methods to try with my therapist.

I found out some problematic things about the author (racism, ableism, fatphobia, etc) and didn't want to continue reading it

This was recommend to me by my therapist after I was recently diagnosed with PTSD. It has so much fantastic information, and it makes my life experiences make so much sense. It was quite difficult to get through at times; it covers a lot of heavy topics and stories of trauma, but it’s absolutely worth reading.
