A light, undemanding read. It's amusing to read through Margaret's story and see just how much has changed and yet how much has stayed the same. There were the odd dated references, especially when it came to sanitary belts (had to google that up, what in the world??) but the insecurities of the prepubescents never seem to change!
Margaret's determination to grow up, figure out her religious identity and be normal above all are so entertaining from a look back perspective. That awful fear at that age that something is wrong with you and that everyone will notice is so relatable and yet so laughable when you realise the things you worried about were so silly in the grand scheme of things.
I enjoyed how we were shown that Margaret and her friends weren't always the most reliable narrators and the consequences of taking rumours for fact.
I appreciated how we didn't get a complete resolution on all the little details here - I'd usually nitpick this but it feels like Blume gets her message across on what behaviours are to be emulated and which aren't without patronising the kids that'd be reading. They can figure out how they'd carry on from there, there's certainly not going to be a magic answer found here but kindness and honesty are certainly given weight.

5 stars!!

my sister gifted this to me on my twelfth birthday. she gave it to me in the morning before she left for school. i finished it on my top bunk in one sitting before i even started getting ready for school! it brought me to tears when i first read it. i love how accurately judy blume portrayed tween girls and all the insecurities and thoughts in their heads. this is definitely a must read for any girls around this age.

Quick read about a girl coming of age. Not super impressed- I wish she had explored kindness a bit more. I could’ve used some closure with some of the relationships she had. Her little possey seemed to be pretty catty and I would’ve loved to see more character development. Wouldn’t recommend but now I’m going to watch the movie and see what the hype was about.

I liked this book, I enjoyed it. But upon reflection after I finished it, I had a few problems with it. For one thing it never tied up what I considered to be a loose thread with the project. Another thing I would’ve liked to have seen was another scene with Laura. I did like that it evened it out a bit with Margaret’s grandmother pushing her to be Jewish just as much as the other side of the family. I’m glad that it showed her parents actually had a reason for limiting their time together. I wish it pushed more anti-gossip. To me it came across more as don’t say it to their face rather than don’t talk bad about someone at all. Overall I enjoyed this book. It was quick and fun, i just think it had a lot of potential to teach valuable lessons that even adults could benefit from that simply weren’t taken advantage of. Another thing I just thought of- I wish Margaret had realized that she didn’t need to “grow” that she was perfectly fine as she was and that it would come in its own time. Sorry if this is hard to understand I’m just rambling.

It was ok, but would be confusing for younger readers. I wouldn't reccomend. The characters and writing are good. I didn't enjoy the parts about religion.  It's obvious the author does not know difference between religion and faith.
