I'm really bummed, but I just have to give up on this book. It sounded promising, but I was bored from page one. The shiny perfect characters with a dark secret were so unappealing.
Interesting premise, decent execution, and a story that is fairly well-written will keep people reading, although it is a story easily forgotten, and there is not enough of a cliffhanger to draw people into the rest of the series.
It has been a couple of weeks since I finished this book and trying to look back, I do not remember much. This is not a good sign. I was quite excited to start reading this book because seemed like it could be a fun and exciting read. However, I was deeply disappointed.
For one, there was hardly any explanation in the world in the book. There was some indication that it was sometime in the future, but other than that, not much detail of it. The lack of information made it difficult to be able to create a setting in my mind which would allow to place the characters. Furthermore, the whole concept of what a Seeker is. I did understand that they were some kind of warriors whose purpose is to put things the way they are supposed to be. But other than that, you do not get any kind of history and why there are Seekers and what their original purpose was and whatnot. There is an indication that things have gone quite corrupt but there is also no indication of how that happened.
Another thing that I did not particularly like was how the perspective changed every chapter or so. It would change between the three main characters: Quin, John, and Shinobu. However, I felt it prevented me from becoming attached to the characters. Also, I did not like how there was a love triangle forming and it was quite weird to have Shinobu interested in Quin, who is cousins with her.
I just could not get into this book. There were too many problems with it with basic information that throughout the rest of the book, I felt like that there was something missing.

The first thing that bothered me about Seeker was that in order to keep the reader in suspense, the author made everything super vague, giving the reader almost no information. The reader is basically thrust into this world with almost no description and is introduced to these people that by chapter 33 (which is where I gave up reading) I still had no idea what their purpose was.
Another frustrating thing about Seeker was that the small amount of information you are given about seekers is supposed to be inferred. I understand that the author was trying to add suspense to the book, but after almost stopping reading two times out of boredom and confusion from all of the vague “information” that had been is given, I was not really in the mood to infer a major part of the plot.
The final issue that I had with Seeker was that I could not possibly bring myself to finish it. From what I remember, I have only not been able to finish a book my first attempt at reading it one other time (for those of you who are curious the book was Paper Towns by John Green). I honestly regret not being able to finish Seeker, because I don’t know if anything was ever actually explained in this book.
I can’t bring myself to give Seeker any stars (even though I technically have to give it 1) because I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. Seeker had such an interesting premise that was simply, poorly executed.

This book was just alright. After reading the whole book, I'm still not sure what a Seeker is actually supposed to do beyond create time/space portals, and be good at weapons. You get the impression that there is some great legacy and purpose, but beyond a couple vague statements about truth towards the end of the book, Seekers are pretty much undefined. Also, who realistically takes a lifelong oath to be something they don't understand? That's exactly what these kids do, and their parents who could really warn them what they're about to get into just leave them out to dry with some cryptic "are you sure?" nonsense. Not believable at all in that sense. A couple characters were fairly compelling (Shinobu & Maud to be specific), the plot meandered a bit, but had some okay elements & surprises. The hardest thing for me to deal with was the setting/world building (or lack thereof) which wasn't all that cohesive. Initially, the book feels like a historical science fiction, and then about halfway through you get more context and realize it's present-day. So with no clear setting, and no clear purpose on the part of most of the characters, and several sides fighting over control of some ancient daggers, I just couldn't figure out how to care about the outcome. Not to mention, there's kinda an icky love triangle.
So, some decent concepts, but not the best execution. Perhaps that's because it was optioned for a movie before it was even published (My ARC claims its soon to be a major motion picture). There were a couple reveals and hints by omission that might work well on screen, but don't fly in a book.

I did not finish reading this book.
It sounds like an addicting and exciting read, but from the first chapter on, I was just too focused on the unclear writing and thinly defined characters.
Nothing about the setting or point of the plotline is made clear. Perhaps it is later on in the book, but based on other reviews, it is unlikely.
Too bad.

I finished this month's ago but I just haven't been on here in forever. I listened to the audio book and it was alright. It wasn't what I thought it was going to be when I read about it. The narration was entertaining but the story especially toward the end was I just ok. The end was better than I had anticipated but I'm not sure I'll read the next one.

I was excited to read this book. But when I started to, I realized pretty quick that it wasn't going to be as good as I thought. The pacing was really slow and the transitions through the multiple POV's weren't very smooth. The story was kind of disjointed and there were some things that weren't explained. When they talk about going "there" They don't say much more. And the interlude that happens around the middle of the book, takes place years before the start of the story and I think it would have been better placed at the start as a Prologue, but it lasts multiple chapters over multiple POVs. Then the next part of the book takes place some undetermined time in the future, it was around there that I stopped. I tried reading more, but this book's pacing made me feel like it should have ended just before the Interlude, but it goes on for another 20-25 chapters before it's over.
I tried and I really wanted to love this book. It could be amazing but for me, the pacing and the lack of explaining made this book dull and sometimes a little confusing.

Vooral het verhaal was verslavend en het idee van de seekers leuk bedacht.
Schrijfstijl en de personages vond ik oke (Maud vond ik wel erg leuk!)
