No. Just, no. This book... I couldn't. I cringed on every page. Maybe I would have liked this had I been a newcomer to fantasy but this... just... crippled me. I can't.

LIKES
- It's fantasy? Oh wait. Loads of books are fantasy. Damn.

DISLIKES
- Elizabeth Grey. Hello, Lady Idiot. She was so STUPID. She is supposed to be The Best Witch Hunter, which is an idea introduced at the beginning of the book. Then she spends the rest of the book disproving this statement. She fails at all of her missions. Half the time she can't defend herself. Then she actually says she would die without that weird Rune thing that helps her heal. Girl, this is pathetic. Celaena Sardothien is a freaking assassin and she doesn't need a rune. Also, she is way too dumb to be a Witch Hunter. I thought she was going to be one of those ruthless and awesomely slightly evil characters. #disappointment.
- How everything suddenly changes. For example: Elizabeth hates witches and wizards and etc for the first quarter of the book. Suddenly, they're OK.
John is angry at Elizabeth because she's a witch hunter. Suddenly, that's fine and they can kiss.

- Elizabeth was so rude AFTER the wizards and magical people rescued her from the prison. I mean, Caleb didn't save you. They did. GET A BRAIN.
- The writing is awful. It is so simplistic and boring. And how half of the other YA novels of the world are told. Original.
- The magic is so boring. And not interesting. I hate this kind of magic. It bores me. Bored.
- What is this plot??? I couldn't understand why it was happening??? WHERE ARE THE MOTIVES???? HELLLLLLPPP???
- Elizabeth would not stop clinging onto Caleb even when it was obvious he
WAS NOT the good guy. And then suddenly she realises she doesn't need him.

- Everything is super confusing. And then I discovered I didn't really care.
- The romance didn't exist. Then it did. And I DO NOT SHIP IT.
- I'm so confused about this world? Is it a historical retelling with witches? Or a high fantasy world? It was never built. It had no background, and I have no idea what was going on.

So, a cringe worthy and badly characterised book. Nope. Sorry, but this just wasn't for me. The characters were awful. Every single one. I'm not even sure what the author was trying to achieve with this??

I'm done.

Review to come

Elizabeth is one of the best witch hunters in an alternate 16th-century England. Events throw her into the world of those she hunted, forcing her to come to terms with old lies, new truths, and her greatest fears. Will she stay loyal to those who saved and trained her, or will she choose a new role in an uncertain and terrifying future? A few scenes seemed reminiscent of scenes in the Harry Potter and Divergent series, but they work for this story as well. An enjoyable and fast-paced first novel, and I look forward to the sequel. #mpsvt #vsla

Definitely engrossing...

Ha sido un libro que he disfrutado. No he conocido a los personajes tanto como querría, y me habría gustado más magia y lucha, pero lo cierto es que se lee rápido y para pasar un buen rato, está bien ^^

When I first looked at the cover of this book, my mind originally went to "Deathly Hallows". I think it had to do with the triangle and circle. But when I looked closer, I realized that it was actually quite different. All in all, I really enjoyed this book. Even the description of this book sounded interesting.

Things I liked:

I really enjoyed all of these characters. Even the background characters get a great story. Schuyler, whom we only meet at the back-half of the book, has an interesting background that we get to know. All of the characters together made up a sort of wacky family that work only when they are all there. Take even one of them out and the story would change. This makes me nervous for the next book because I have a inkling that someone may die.

Also, I liked the whole plot. One of my guilty pleasures is when someone has to hide their background for some reason or another. Whether it be a physical transformation or a hidden secret, I love these plots. It makes it even better when they start to fall for someone who doesn't know their secret, or may even hate their hidden selves. This is one of the things that made the story great. A witch hunter who uses magic to stop magic, but then finds out she was brainwashed to believe the wrong thing? That's awesome.

There was no Instalove! The romance arc was minor and felt completely natural. It wasn't forced and it wasn't a love-at-first sight thing. That I loved.

Dislikes:
There wasn't a lot I didn't dislike about this book. I wished it didn't end the way it did because I have a lot of questions. It was pretty short but that just makes me want to read the next one that much more. Maybe the one thing I didn't like so much was the villain, Blackwell. It was fairly obvious once you got to know him that he was hiding something. And his secret didn't turn out to be a huge secret. At least I sort of knew what was coming.

Overall, this is a great book and a great start to an interesting series.

Good idea, but the novel fails to deliver. And we have another case of the lust-triangle. And predictable. And the main character herself is a flop. And I don't like this book.

Warning: The main character is raped, but it is heavily implied.

It feels like I've read this story a hundred times, in fact almost every other book I pick up seems to be this story. Aside from the trivial details there's nothing to define these books from one another. The Witch Hunter has nothing exceptional about it, there are no 'oh didn't see that coming' moments, no 'wow' revelations, no heart-breaking situations - it was a tad dry, is all I can say.

I've read this book before (about 5 years ago), and I really liked it at that time. I couldn't remember anything except one scene of it, so I decided to give it another go. I still like it, even though not as much as before.
At first the main character, Elizabeth, was a bit annoying, but during the end, I grew to like her more.
John needs to be protected and deserves all the love. (Even though I don't ship him with Elizabeth)
I hope I'll see more of George in the second book, and that his sexuality gets explored more.

Overall it was an Ok book. It got more action packed and exciting towards the end that made me raise the star rating from 2-3. There are some problems I have with it, but overall it was a decent read
