I knew Andrew Rannells as one of the original members of the Broadway cast for The Book of Mormon and his various acting jobs such as The Boys In The Band, Girls, The Prom. His memoir TOO MUCH IS NOT ENOUGH follows his days from high school in the late 90s to his first big break in Hairspray in the early 2000s. There is no celebrity gossip or descriptions of a lavish lifestyle. This is the life of a young gay man who comes out, moves to New York City to study acting, and tries to balance work, love, and romance. The memoir is very funny and I laughed several times. The audiobook read by the author was a great experience with a lot of jokes, inflection, and emotion. At the same time Rannells is trying to get his big break, he learns what it means to be far away from his family in Omaha, what friendship really means, and who he wants to be a relationship. This isn’t a typical celebrity memoir with gossip and name-dropping. This is an earnest examination of that time in everyone’s life when you’re trying to decide who you want to become. ★★★★★ •
Riveting, funny, deeply personal memoir that almost makes me want to dust off my dreams of being on stage. I wish there had been one more chapter about his stint in Book of Mormon, but otherwise this was a fantastic read.
This is funny, touching and has a very healthy helping of musical theater ... so it was perfect for me. I did wish it kept going into his career on Broadway, instead of just how he got there, but maybe htat's for a future book!
I absolutely loved it.
That's how a memoir should be written.
It was AMAZING, funny, and super entertaining and now I love Andrew Rannells even more!

Read because I’ve been a fan of his work for a couple of years now ! This was fun and interesting to read, and heartening for someone in an arts-based field.

I finished this in 2 days, it was such a fun read! The stories about growing up, moving to New York, and trying to make it are incredibly relatable and touching. I love that it ends with his Broadway debut, as it shows all the struggle he went through before he made it big which often isn’t discussed. I hope he writes a sequel about what happens after because I greatly enjoyed the writing!
I loved this book. It was honest and beautifully written. While not as “dishy” as some celebrity memoirs, you could really hear his voice in all of the essays. Love!
