Don't compare this to the Walking Dead. Every story is it's own. Stories are meant to be told.
This is a good taste of apocalyptic life and the urge and need to get home, to find your loved ones alive before it is too late.

The only good thing about this book was that the story got going quickly. I never really felt any affinity to the main character, the character with the next biggest part, was just plain awful and I dont know what the author was thinking.

The book was short and never stopped moving, but I still found myself skipping pages, as I was just uninterested.

Its a good Zombie read, although I thought it ended a bit abruptly. It was a little odd that every time the main character was just about screwed someone saves him. (this happens about 5 times) It was entertaining enough for me to read it in a day and a half, so pretty good I would say.

Action, adventure, violence from beginning to end. If you like zombies then you will like this book. A massive viral outbreak has paralyzed the gulf states with the story centered on San Antonio. There is not much character development here but there is a lot of death and destruction!

Creepy and messy, my kind of zombie story.

2.5 stars. The character development is poor. Every female character (there are only 3 who speak) are all idiots. But it was a fun read.

This book is definitely one for zombie lovers. As a zombie fan myself there were certain aspects of the book that I loved for example I liked that 99% of the people our main character Eddie met ended up dead because that seems very realistic to me. I mean seriously it’s a zombie-ridden city of course all of the people aren’t going to survive and a lot of zombie novels most of the main characters do survive and I hate that. So that’s would made Dead City original.

I can’t really say much about the character’s as Eddie is literally our only main character. Everyone else is secondary and are hardly in the novel at all. However I think Eddie was an okay main character. He was very serious and sometimes that made him very boring personally I think he should have been a secondary character rather than a main.

The plot is very fast-paced with loads of action packed scenes, full of violence, guts and blood. The perfect amount for a zombie novel. However the ending REALLY disappointed me, like seriously I thought it was a joke. That made the book lose a star in my rating scale and another star was taken off because the author killed of my favourite character and that really pissed me off.

Overall I would still recommend this book to people but I would tell you to prepare yourself for one of the worst ending’s ever. This book gets 3 out of 5 stars.

I am admittedly biased towards zombie books. I've finished more bad zombie books than is reasonable, especially when compared to the number of bad books (of every other genre) I've chosen to give up on. Knowing this, I'll allow that for those not as biased towards zombies, you may consider my review a "3 Star Review" rather than 4. ;)

This is a fast paced book, full of action and excitement. It's definitely what I would categorize as "brain candy"- fun, but not very filling.

I enjoyed the first person narrative of 'Eddie' and the fact that he didn't immediately have all the answers. He wasn't portrayed as some super cop with an instant sound game plan, endless tolerance for others and a selfless soul, but a panicked man trying to find his family and survive a nightmare.

I liked that throughout the story the author gives examples of how different personality types might react to a zombie plague. True, there was a good deal of stereotyping going on, but I didn't mind it...much.

I won't spoil it for the people interested in reading the book by giving all the details. It's a fast and fun read...and I'll likely read its sequel.

I'm a bit surprised with how much I actually enjoyed this book. So far the only zombie books I've read have been walking dead graphic novels and The Forest of Hands and Teeth.

This is better. This is what the walking dead could have been if Rick hadn't been in a coma. The start, the "holy f**king s**t what is happening?!" chaos.

It was intense, I didn't really want to stop reading, and as a parent I felt his desperate need to find his family.

I'll read the next one

Pretty standard zomb-lit and very satisfying at that! The author is a San Antonio police officer, which really added to the SanAn setting and law enforcement details in the story.
