There are echoes of Alan Moore through this. It was missing the little deeper level of Moore's Swamp Thing (which is, of course, my Swamp Thing) but it was a loving homage.

Meh. I think the parallel Animal Man was better. I almost gave this a 2, except issue 18 was pretty damn good.

After slogging through volume 1 and 2, 3 made it somewhat worth it. No longer were we building up to a big event, the big event was actually happening. I honestly think reading this along side animal man may be affecting my opinion, but whatever. Storyline overall in this book was good, although I still feel like there are plot holes on occasion. I'm beginning to just feel like Swamp thing isn't my thing. I just don't enjoy his relationship with Abby, even if it is the driving point of the story. Negatives aside, the artwork was very good in my opinion, and so was the story's creativity in general.

Animal Man and Swamp Thing must work together to keep The Green from falling into the Rot.

The Swamp Thing and Animal Man combo has been great. I think I enjoyed everything leading up to this volume more than this culminating experience.
Here are the spoilers:
There's one particular comic in this volume that is drawn terribly. I'll have to go back and look who it was, but the art style felt very rushed and not at all in the same style as the rest of the book. They also resort to some old comic book tricks of shoving the characters into the future, making all the superheroes rotted zombies, have a big fight, then throw the characters back into "present day". It was a little hacky.

However, the art (aside from that one issue) is great, and weird, and bloody. It's worth reading if you're into Animal Man and Swamp Thing. (Could've used some Constantine in there, too.)

Farewell Scott Snyder. You had a really good run.

No, Snyder's ending to Swamp Thing isn't breathtaking or gut-wrenching, but I felt it was a decent one. A lot of people had wondered why the New 52 series continued because they saw this as a fitting end to the series--but not me. Damn, I CAN'T GET ENOUGH SWAMP THING! Of course they continued the series because this was one of the few New 52 series that people actually enjoyed. I know that sounds harsh, but several of the New 52's fell flat such as Superman and Batwoman resulting in DC comics cancelling several of their series. But Swamp Thing was not one of the unfortunate few.

I wasn't quite as allured with this third volume as I was with the first two and it's probably because I didn't read its sister series New 52 Animal Man (which I REALLY want to read now). The 4th volume has been getting a lot of buzz and I can't wait to see what Charles Soule has done to make everyone so happy.

Great ending to this epic storyline....too bad other DC books besides Swamp Thing and Animal Man were not apart of this. suspenseful supernatural action made for a page turner. Snyder and Lemire still have it...and great artwork by Paquette.
