This was powerful and informative. Particularly depressing and pertinent to today is the political fallout of Till's murder.

This book is such an incredibly difficult book to process and yet an important read to contextualize modern history. Tim Tyson's book "Blood Done Sign My Name" was such a gripping and heartbreaking book for me when I read it as a sophomore in college. This book was poignant and gut-wrenching and critical to understanding the past and how it impacts our current realities in the country.

A look at the lynching of a 14-year-old from Chicago in a rural Mississippi community in 1955 -- why his death became such a turning point in race relations in this country. Pulls information from reports at the time and reflections by key people later. His mother and two Black witnesses willing to testify were heroes in the story.

Powerful story of the 1954 slaying of Emmitt Till and its impact on the burgeoning civil rights movement. Sweeping in scope and unsparing on details, every American should read this but won’t.
The narration was distracting with the reader’s choice to attempt to imitate speakers’ dialect and speech patterns. It was too much for me.

The revelation that Carolyn Bryant lied was not surprising at all but still good to have, I think.
This book talks about the brutal murder of Emmett Till as well as a little of the trial. I think it has a good context and more importantly, information on the influence this murder has on American History. I also liked the emphasis on the work of Mamie Carthan and how her actions and determination are what made Emmett's murder different than the others.
But I think I still would've preferred to read more from a perspective of a Black author or journalist.

Wow - amazing book with a message for all generations. It was a hard read and a little depressing, especially after the Roe decision, but this book, in the end, inspired hope and action!
