A fantastic retelling of Norse mythology from Loki’s perspective, that had me feeling surprisingly connected to this trickster.
adventurous informative mysterious slow-paced

Norse mythology and a sense of humor! Besides the alternative viewpoint of events told from the villain's perspective, this was the most important part for me. Loki's tone is consistent throughout retelling Prose and Poetic Edda stories Some are slightly modified, some with more details, and then a few other events are imagined by the author to fill in. I think some people hanker for the heavy, ultra-serious tone of what I see in most fiction dealing with Norse mythology. But for me, this was a welcome change of pace to deliver an interesting take on those stories, and I recommend it for fans of the mythology in particular.

A very good story adaptation of Norse mythology all things considered. Especially with following Loki, whose mythology, is very harshly contested with no one true Canon aside from a few small stories. I normally don’t like stories with the frame work of being told said story by someone as a hard narrator, but I didn’t mind it that much as Loki actually makes a lot of sense in canon. Him being an unreliable narrator is funny in and of itself but some of the jokes that come out of that fact, is more than enough for me to like this style choice. I’m pretty predisposed of liking anything with Loki in it so my enjoyment of this book is not a surprise to me.

Loki’s narration of his time at Asgard was definitely entertaining, his sarcasm and biting honesty was engaging and enjoyable. However I felt that much of the book was very bitty, presumably due to the nature of mythology, and it therefore felt we were lurching from anecdote to anecdote rather than having one continuous story.
Additionally, sometimes the characters fell slightly flat. While Loki did often read as a complex character trying to balance his nature, motivations and relationships, there were other times he came across as repetitive and one-note. Similarly, none of the other gods had particularly distinguishing personalities and I feel that in some of the stories you could have swapped the characters round with absolutely no discernible difference to the plot.

I just couldn't deal with the portrayal of the characters (for more in that I'd highly recommend the gr review by a person called Miranda, plus the convo below it).

And the narrative voice just wasn't it.
