I probably should have left this to read in December, given that several of the stories are Christmas related (the holly on the front cover was a clue I missed entirely). Then again, it cheered me up from my nest under a blanket feeling sorry for myself, so perhaps this was exactly the right time to read it.
The stories were fun, neatly plotted, and full of the humour I've missed since finishing the Discworld series.

Loved this collection (my first proper introduction to Terry Pratchett's work)
My favorite stories were:
Wanted: a Fat, Jolly Man with a Great Woolly Hat
A Partridge in a Post Box
From the Horse's Mouth
The Haunted Steamroller
and Pilgarlic Towers

This is early Pratchett. There are some funny bits, but nothing like his later, deeply clever stuff. And that's okay. Even "not best" Pratchett is pretty damn good.

Thanks to Penguin for sending me a proof of this! It's a collection of Terry's earlier work, short stories from before he was the writer everybody grew to love, when he was working for local newspapers. I'm a huge fan of Good Omens (which Terry wrote with Neil Gaiman) and have read one Terry book and have a few more in my stacks of books, but this is a nice collection to start with if the enormity of the Discworld series intimidates you a little. While it is early work, the stories are funny (of course) and short enough that they kept my attention and I was able to speed through the book in a few days worth of bus journeys, often chuckling along to myself. A must-read for big fans of Terry's work, and definitely worth picking up if you're yet to experience Terry's writing!
This is an essential book for Pratchett scholars and completionists. Casual Discworld fans are more likely to be disappointed than enthralled. This collection gathers short stories Terry wrote while working for newspapers in his late teens and 20s. There are proto-Discworld moments and flashes of the genius to come. Otherwise it’s a collection of pleasant and not particularly memorable short stories.
