2.5 stars. I liked the flashbacks to Genevieve and Ethan, but I think their should have been more connection between the two story lines. *spoiler the only reason we flash back there is to tell us how the curse started.* I wanted there to be more about how the two lovers in present day where the key to breaking the curse.

I gave it 4 stars. I enjoyed the book. Originally I watched the movie before reading the book which is like the forbidden rule but I didn’t know it was a book so I got them and finally read the first one!
Lena was edgy™️ and “not like other girls” as said by Ethan Wate when he first met her not knowing who she was at all but I did enjoy her character. I over all enjoyed the book and liked it more than the movie and the changes made from book to movie. I felt like there is more plot and room for development with the characters in the book as they differ from the movie. Also coming from a small town in South Carolina I’m able to relate to Ethan and his wanting to leave a small conservative town so that was good. I’m hoping in the next book there’s more digging into the caster worlds and the different creatures and powers. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I loved this book. Such a sweet story similar to Twilight. Living in a small southern town myself made me laugh at so many of the descriptions of the locals. This one kept me up late at night. I couldn't wait to see what happened, but hated for it to end. I recommend it Twilight fans.

Following in the footsteps of Twilight and Hunger Games, this "dark" teen book has been developed into a film that's due out in February. It's only ok. The writing is much (much) better than Twilight, and male protagonist makes things interesting, but it's still a little repetitive, not as thoughtful as HG, and the delicious guilty pleasure is somehow lacking. Perhaps it's fairest to say it falls squarely into the YA (Young Adult) category in themes and depth, brushing on bullying, otherness and coming of age, with some rather predictable fantastical twists driving the plot.

I'm a sucker for fantasy series so I might read the next one just to see if it delves darker like Harry Potter did, but right now I have low hopes for its thematic evolution.

Great. Amazing. Captivating.
I've read this before but it's been years. I love the characters so much and it's different than other supernatural books. It is told by the non-powered male love interest who falls in love with the caster outsider who is trying to control/learn her powers. I have been obsessed with this book for so long and will take no criticism, thank you.
Also, everyone needs an Amma.
