Wowzers. This is one of the longest books I have EVER read. Yes, it is almost exactly like the Stand, but it is ABSOLUTELY still worth a read. For starters, the ending is way better. Sorry, the Stand is literally one of my top three favorite books of all time but the ending sucks. But yall this book is DARK. Like, I thought the Stand was dark. But I am legit laughing at Past Jenn. The Stand was a still thru Disney. Swan Song is a fucking nightmare. People are the absolute worst and he absolutely nails how they will one hundred percent be carrying on as soon as the bombs drop. I hope I’m either vaporized immediately or by some slim chance I end up with Sister or Josh. And fun fact- Josh played football for Auburn!!! Isn’t that wild?!?!
I still can’t get over how good this was. Yes, it’s so dark. SO. DARK. The Roland stuff was almost too brutal for me, and I really REALLY hated that his name was Roland, especially with the TS Elliot poem. Was this dude like just straight trolling King?!?! I mean I get that he basically HAD to use that poem, but he didn’t have to use the Gunslinger’s name. Dude’s got balls, I guess.
The characters were soooo good. I cried multiple times. I loved it. Highly highly recommend, but only if this is your jam. Bc it’s brutal. This is not some Mother Abigail singing around a campfire giving everyone the warm fuzzies story. But there IS hope. And magic

A good post-apocalyptic story. I enjoyed reading it.
This may be one of my ten favorite books of all time.
This is an amazing, epic post-apocalyptic tale. To be honest, I put it down about half way through the first time I read it. About a year later, I picked it up and started it again, this time finishing the book and it changed my entire perspective of the world.
This book is really, really wonderful and moving and I highly recommend it.

Wow. I don't think there are enough words. McCammon definitely has become a favorite writer of mine. After reading [b:Boy's Life|11553|Boy's Life|Robert R. McCammon|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1314302694l/11553._SY75_.jpg|16685995], I was hooked and now with this work, I am a fan.
Here we have a tale of what happens after the world nukes the hell out of each other; and how do we as humans survive. Amazing story, epic in scale, and such wonderful characters. I cheered our heroines, Swan and Sister; on as they tackled this new world order, with hope. The despair and evil that tried to catch hold of everyone's humanity, could not withstand that light. Through their tenacity and faith that something bigger than themselves was at work; they gave others hope and power to fight that evil.
Do not listen to those that say this compares greatly to Stephen Kings [b:The Stand|149267|The Stand|Stephen King|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1213131305l/149267._SX50_.jpg|1742269]. Both books are great and deserve praise on their own merits. Are there similarities; yes; but are they the same; No. They are both dystopian, but how they get there and how things resolve themselves are totally different. Do not do a disservice to either author by discounting the work that they both put into such wonderful books.
This is a great tale, that everyone can read and should, at least once.

Read this on a recommendation from my dad, never read horror before and wasn’t initially into its style and slow start but as it picked and storylines merged I ended up really liking it
Editing this review up to five stars because I keep mentally coming back to this book and it was just a great read
