If I had wanted a soap opera full of relationship melodrama, I would have turned on my TV and watched one. I skimmed over a lot of it but the cringe was still almost too much to handle. I only kept pushing because when the monsters did show up, it was actually engaging and I was curious about the ending, but it turned out to be underwhelming after all. I give this 1.5 stars instead of a flat 1 only because of the monster scenes, most of them anyway.
It wasn’t my favorite of Ania’s books like most people say, mostly because it was a monster horror instead of a paranormal, but I enjoyed it. The ending was so disappointing though, they deserved to have a happy ending at least :(

Bog standard no surprises monster horror. There’s a neat touch of drama between all of the characters that acts as a decent spice on top of the slaughter.
That was absolutely brutal from beginning to end. I totally suspected the ending would not be happy at all, and I was correct. I also was waiting the entire time for the dog to get eaten. I knew it would happen!
The way this book was written felt very smart to me. I liked how it switched from the main story to random people in the area just getting demolished by these creatures. If it was only our group of people, it would have felt a bit more slow.
The entire time I was reading this I was just anticipating something bad. She definitely set the tone for that, which made something I’m not really afraid of feel a bit more scary and anxiety inducing. I mean, my heart was seriously pounding at some parts because I was so scared for the characters.
I’ll hand it to them though. They were pretty brave and very smart. They just kept making tiny mistakes that screwed them in the end. Not even shit that they had much control over which is what made reading their failures even more painful.
A+ I did not expect myself to enjoy that book as much as I did.

Wow, now that was intense. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I love the Horror & Thriller genres, so this fit in perfectly. Plus, it had 1 hell of a climax. A must read if you're a fan of the genre.
