The book started slow, but once she ended up in the castle I started to enjoy it. The last twist about Dez and Castian being siblings didn't make the most sense but most the twists were pretty cool

I originally didn’t think this would be a five star read for me, but that ending! Omg! I had to give it 5 stars.

This book made me think of Night Spinner in that the main character is trying to find her way in life and understand who she is and what she will do with her life. She allows others to make decisions for her and she comes to learn that she needs to stop and start making her own decisions that she believes is right. It was such a growth process for her through the entire book coming to terms with who and what she is, despite what others say or think about her. I just fell in love with Renata and rooted for her the whole time!

I don’t want to say the book was predictable, but I did figure out a lot of the twists before they happened except for one that threw me off and it was fantastic! Even though I was able to figure things out fairly easily, I was never bored. I was absolutely enthralled with this book wondering what would happen next, what will Renata do, Will she be okay??? I mean I read it in two days! It was just so well written and I loved all the twists that happened that mad me yell out loud at Renata telling her no! Even though I knew what would happen.

This book is also making me realize I must really have a thing for the bad guys because Castian...mmmmmm

Really good story with interesting protagonist who learns her true story through the images of others' memories. Clever twists in the plot keep it hopping.

Actual rating 4.5! This book isn’t at all what I expected, which made it a strong read for me. Though I didn’t quite connect with the characters in the beginning, by the end I was thrilled and excited by everything that was happening.

Ren is a complex main character who is feared by many and finds herself torn between two worlds. She does her best with her complicated powers and I found her arc to be a sympathetic one. I look forward to seeing where she goes by the end. The side characters are all pretty interesting, though I am compelled by the Bloodied Prince. I can’t wait to see where his storyline goes.

The magics that are used are unique and dangerous, and lead to all sorts of trouble in a complicated and in-depth world. I loved the way everything was set up and how intricate the details were.

Most of what I enjoyed came from the political plots. Everything was shaded in grey and each side had its share of enemies, which left Ren with nowhere to run or feel safe. This also made the revelations, twists, and betrayals all the more intense. I honestly truly enjoyed the final few chapters, which took me to unexpected places and promises a stellar adventure.

A great book for anyone who likes morally grey characters, strong political/royalty plots, dark magic, and intense action scenes!

This book is exactly the type of book I love. Flawed heroine finding her strength and who she is and what she stands for
