Breezed through it! Admittedly doing this some of the works may have went over my head, but I think overall this book allowed me to have a good overview of the works of Pessoa, and his various heteronyms. All very interesting and it’s easy to see his philosophical outlook through the various writings.

One thing I am curios about is how much prose and rhythm is maintained in translation. By all means the work as presented in the translation was very interesting but just very curious how the poems would be read, both in this translation, and in their original languages, most of which I assume are from Portuguese.

his writing style verges on the sublime - he teaches one to take more than just your own experiential style and live the perspective you wish to take.

I never know what to say about poetry, but I thought the idea of the multiple writers and multiple personalities very intriguing. Never the less some poets were really nice but others just fell flat.

Fernando Pessoa & Co.: Selected Poems

Fernando Pessoa & Co. is a book of enjoyable early 1900s Portuguese poetry. Pessoa records his observations of the natural world, the stars, and his feelings. He also writes down his philosophical thoughts about the gods and the soul. The poems remind me a bit of the writings of the Romantic era poets. A couple of my favorite lines from a poem written 8 July 1930: “May winter wrap earth and not our minds, / As love to love, or book to book, we relish / the brief warm fire.”

There were some good poems here, but good Lord, were they depressing. Also, I never know what to say about poems...
