There was a part in the beginning where the R word was used and it just didn't sit right with me. Other than that I really enjoyed the book, which isn't that surprising, the more I read Shusterman, the more I love his writing.

Ok, there were a few words, that I didn't like and a couple of things that weren't actually saying them just misheard so it sounds like something else. So there's that. But overall I think it was pretty good. I liked the writing style because I feel like that's how the voice in my head talks when I think. So I guess I think like a Brooklyn person talks. oops. anyway yeah, it's pretty light and easy reading. And it was funny (in my eyes) so if you need a laugh this could be the book for you. I think if you pick it up and want to read it go ahead, but I don't have a very strong opinion about it. so its up to you

My favorite kind of boy.
My 6th grade son picked this up from his classroom library and loved it so much he read the next two books.

We listened to this on our road trip and it kept the whole family enthralled and chuckling. However, we all felt a little let down by the rather abrupt ending.

A departure from his usual novels, The Schwa Was Here is still equally imaginative and thoughtful. The pace of this book is refreshing with it's Brooklyn attitude. Shusterman brings together a completely unique group of people who are fully formed and endearing. The common thread through all of Shusterman's novels continues with The Schwa, in that beneath the speeding plot are many truths about human nature and our fears of disappearing in our own lives. Yet another terrific read from one of the best authors of our time.
