Such a great fairytale for adults! While I loved the movie adaptation there truly isnt anything as good as the book, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

Absolutely loved it but it just begins to taper off towards the end. Would absolutely read again.

4.5

4.5/5; A beautifully written book, reads almost like a fairy tale. Because of that it’s very familiar and predictable but it doesn’t take much away from it as a whole.

I feel so warm and fuzzy after finishing this! So charming and filled with whimsy - the perfect fairy tale. :)

Lost me at British royals, flighty women and Arabic men. Ew.

This is written very differently from the way the movie portrays the story; to be honest, they are almost two completely different stories. However, each stands with its own merit, and Neil was involved in both of them (I believe), and so I was able to enjoy both.

Keep in mind that this is more of a children's book, although, with all of Neil's children's literature, there is a darker side to it. He doesn't talk to down to children, which I think is a huge plus with them; he knows that they can decide what they can and cannot handle, and I respect him all the more for that. Stardust reads like a cross between a child's early chapter book and a sophisticated folk or fairy tale. I would recommend that people read this before seeing the movie, just so they can appreciate the two more. I find that this is the best way to enjoy each medium.

Stardust is much more than a fairy tale, and given Gaiman's nature it holds a lot of so called "horror" aspects as well. Stardust is a coming of age novel, a novel about family. It is also a story about different kinds of love. Like those feelings of "love" that really turn out to be just being in love with the idea of who you want someone to be and not who they really are. Stardust has witches, fallen stars, and pirates. It's filled with intrigue, bravery, witty banter, and a sweet romance. The best thing that I can say about Stardust is that it is often compared to The Princess Bride by William Goldman, how can a review get any higher than that? If you enjoy fairy tales, witty main characters, and novels filled with light and dark moments, then Stardust is the book for you.

I was a little nervous when book club had this book as our next read. I’m not a huge fan of fairy tales and I’ve not had much luck with Neil Gaiman’s work so far. Year, I was definitely nervous about Stardust!

BUT! I’ll admit it… This was a fun, quick little tale.
