The shifting perspectives were sometimes difficult to follow and Treadles is a pouty chauvinist stereotype. But I'm a sucker for a Holmes adaptation and forbidden romance.

This book was so much fun. I love a good Sherlock Holmes pastiche, and this was was a delight. Charlotte Holmes is her own, fully realized character and not Sherlock Holmes as a woman. What I mean is, Thomas took care to giver Charlotte her own personality and interests instead of slapping on Holmes' character traits and making him a woman. Charlotte and Holmes are distinct personalities.
The mystery was a little convoluted for me. Maybe it's because I was exhausted when I was reading it, but I kept forgetting who was who and how they were connected. I felt the names were very similar to each other, which didn't help. Still, I was able to follow along the main plot and highly enjoyed it. The reveal at the end was properly chilling and a real blow. I also liked how Thomas teased at a more challenging villain in future books. I'm excited for what's to come.

Was difficult to keep track of the characters at first but once I figured it out it became a quick read. I was shocked by the ending but I want to read the rest of the series.
I'm kind of torn on this one. I like this version of Sherlock, and I like Watson, and I like the dynamic with the LI. This is an origin story, however, and that aspect felt really unnecessary. The main plot meandered, and I found myself skimming a bit, in part because I frankly didn't care about the 3 victims in the main mystery. It came together at the end, but it feels weird to say I liked this book when I probably skimmed a significant chunk of it. I'm up for reading the next one, however.
This started slow and I had trouble connecting with the characters at first, maybe in part because of the formal writing style. But by the end I was fully invested and loved the relationships Charlotte had with Livia, Mrs Watson and particularly Lord Ingram. I've always loved Sherlock Holmes and I adore retellings that exchange the original male protagonist with a strong female lead. I'm keen to see where the rest of the series leads.
Lady Sherlock is a brilliant re-imagining of everyone’s favourite detective, Sherlock Holmes. What you should be aware of before going in is that while there are many characters that are supposed to be based on their counterparts in the original, this series is built very loosely around the original characters (Watson, mrs Hudson, Mycroft, Moriarty). I particularly enjoyed Charlotte’s character, Sherry Thomas does not sidestep the difficulty a lady detective or, indeed an intelligent woman in Victorian England would have faced, and the series is realistic in portraying the plight of women while building a strong and more than capable female lead arising from the unlikeliest of circumstances.
While I enjoyed the characters very much, the actual mystery in this book could have been more engaging and interesting. I am totally hooked on the entire series though and Charlotte + Lord Ingram are so compelling and well written, I loved every page they were on. They have so much chemistry and make for such an interesting pairing, mainly because of the eccentricities of Charlotte’s character.
