This was a very satisfying conclusion to this new set of books. I even liked how he wrapped up the ending and fit in a bit of information on where people from the Dreaming Void trilogy are and what they are up to.

So good. Hamilton is amazing. You know he will tie everything together in the end and it's a wild wild ride getting there.

Such an amazing author.

Everything the first part wasn't, was this part. Everything I complained about and disliked in the first part, was made up in this part. 200%

I truly fully enjoyed reading this book. A fantastic joy ride from start to finish. Perfectly fitting into the whole Void universe story.

The 2nd part of the Faller chronicle and the 7th or 8th book in the commonwealth universe. In this book the Fallers (an aggressive alien life form that takes over the dominant species on a planet) are close to overwhelming Bienvenido human population and then some help from the commonwealth arrives.

The story is quite fast paced, filled with action and suspense. While this book still talks a lot about politics and how it evolves in a harsh environment, this time the balance between that and nice SF action is better then in the previous book.

One thing you need to know is that this book is very Peter F Hamilton. All his strengths and weaknesses are present here. So if you disliked his other work, this might not pull you over to the liker's camp. But if you enjoyed any of his previous novels, you will surely enjoy this one.

I don't want to go into too much detail, but this was a really really great book. The story was engaging, although it had its dull moments. And the ending felt a bit rushed (as if Hamilton was told by his editors that he had to wrap soon because the story was getting a bit long), but it was still satisfying (despite the cliché ending). Definitely read this if you read the previous book ([book:The Abyss Beyond Dreams|20697413]) to get closure on the story. It's worth it.

Fan Service in the form of a novel.

Being a fan of Peter Hamilton I enjoyed some of the service but I hope he goes back to telling interesting stories and doesn’t repeat this weird and hollow form of fan service.

Commonwealth I loved you, but it’s time to die already.

My journey through the Commonwealth universe is now complete, and I'm happy to say that Peter F. Hamilton absolutely landed the plane perfectly with this concluding volume. After Abyss Beyond Dreams kind of let me down it was a complete 180 with A Night Without Stars as I think it is my second favorite book in the whole universe after Pandora's Star.

My complaints with Abyss Beyond Dreams were basically that it didn't feel like science fiction and it didn't feel like a Commonwealth book. ANWOS corrects both of those issues. It gave me everything I wanted. He goes back to leaning into the futuristic tech and other aspects that make this series great. Also, the plotting political revolution plot is gone and replaced with a plot about actually trying to save the planet from the Fallers. And that plot is a rocket ship all the way until the end. And at the end Hamilton again shows that he's an expert at tying up all the threads in a very satisfying way.

If you are someone who maybe didn't read this because you weren't happy with Abyss Beyond Dreams do yourself a favor and pick this one up. This will be what you want. A fantastic end to a fantastic series which I would put right up there with the Sun Eater universe in my sci fan series rankings.

Lets not beat about the bush here, these are very heavy books - both in word count and the scale of the books. Some parts gets bogged down in tech, while other areas just drag. However, there is something about these books that makes me continue (when i would have given up on others) and the payoff is good.
