BOOK: A Wedding in December
AUTHOR: Sarah Morgan

A perfect read for a snowed in holiday! Or if you were me, a Caribbean cruise (pool time y’all). I really expected this book to go in a completely different way than it did. The author weaves together 3 different character storylines (Mom and 2 sisters) in such a way that it seamless captures the various stages of love or loss of love.
Most of the time I enjoy chic lit, so I wasn't sure if this one would hold my attention. But I have to say I was drawn in by the story and the setting of this book quite quickly. There were times I even got a little choked up! Pick this story up and read quickly with some cocoa. You won’t regret it.
Short Synopsis (from Goodreads):
In the snowy perfection of Aspen, the White family gathers for youngest daughter Rosie’s whirlwind Christmas wedding. First to arrive are the bride’s parents, Maggie and Nick. Their daughter’s marriage is a milestone they are determined to celebrate wholeheartedly, but they are hiding a huge secret of their own: they are on the brink of divorce. After living apart for the last six months, the last thing they need is to be trapped together in an irresistibly romantic winter wonderland. Rosie’s older sister, Katie, is also dreading the wedding. Worried that impulsive, sweet-hearted Rosie is making a mistake, Katie is determined to save her sister from herself! If only the irritatingly good-looking best man, Jordan, would stop interfering with her plans…
I received this book for review purposes from NetGalley.

Cute Christmas story with a nice complicated family - who doesn’t have one of those?!
The parents who have a secret, the sister that lives at work and has a secret and the younger care free sister who is very impulsive. Sounds like a Christmas recipe for disaster!
This starts slow and I did think for a second that I wasn’t going to like it! But thankfully once it found its feet, I found this story to be fully of amusing scenes and gorgeous descriptions of Colorado in the snow.
I found myself liking the characters, especially Jordan. They were all described in a way that I felt like I knew them well but it was mixed in with a lot of inner dialogue that I just felt was a tad unnecessary

This was a nice festive read which I was grateful to be reading on my breaks as I has a stressful week at work - it was full of snow and family drama which isn't my own is always very welcome. It is a nice, chilled read perfect for the busy festive period.
I vastly preferred one story line to the others which left this feeling a little unbalanced to me, but that may be because it resonated with me so much at this point in my life that the other plot lines didn't seem as interesting to me - it is so strange how your current situation can affect your reading experience so deeply!

When Maggie White finds out that her youngest daughter is getting married on Christmas Eve in Aspen, she is taken aback. After all, Rosie and Dan only met a few months ago and the wedding is half way around the world. To complicate things, Maggie and her husband Dan have been separated since summer and this would not only force them to be together, but they haven’t even broken the news to their children yet. Their eldest daughter Katie, an emergency medicine physician, has held her own secrets for the past 2 months - ever since that eventful night in the emergency room that has her questioning her chosen career.
Aspen is the perfect setting for the White family to disconnect from their usual lives and spend time with friends and family - perhaps changing their lives forever. The tranquil setting described in this book sounds amazing and adds to the story. I found the book to be engaging and believable - the perfect story for a autumn or winter read.

It's not Christmas unless I read a Sarah Morgan Christmas romance!
A Wedding in December is another wonderful cross-generational story following the White family as they prepare for a Christmas wedding. No one does cross-generational stories like Sarah Morgan, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with for her next Christmas novel.

Maggie, Katie, and Rosie are all hiding things from each other. Maggie doesn't want to let her daughters know that she and their father are divorcing. Though grown (maybe especially because they're grown), Katie and Rosie have no idea that their parents' marriage is anything but stable. But it could also be that they are so involved in their own lives.
Katie is an ER doctor in an ER that is perpetually understaffed. A month ago, something happened. We don't know what it is for most of the book but it is causing her some severe issues with PTSD.
Rosie is the pivot around which the story revolves. She's twenty-three with a history of making impulsive (not always good) decisions. This time, it's to get married to Dan, a man from Colorado after dating him for three months. Her family, mostly looking forward to one last Christmas in their cottage in England, are aghast.
But, as will happen, on this trip the secrets will start to come out. And maybe, just maybe, that's not such a bad thing.
Another good book from Sarah Morgan. It did take me awhile to get into it and I never really connected with any of the characters but the story moves and the ending seemed realistic.

Rosie is getting married! Everyone has always been protective of Rosie since she has asthma and had some pretty severe attacks when she was young. They're all worried that she's rushing into this but they all head over to Aspen from their homes in England to celebrate.
Rosie starts to doubt herself when her family shows up, but convinces herself that since her parents have had a successful thirty year marriage after a whirlwind romance everything will be great. Except she doesn't know that her parents have actually been leading separate lives for six months.
Rosie's sister Katie is trying her best to make sure Rosie knows what she's doing and isn't rushing into something she'll regret (and that her fiancé is good enough for her), but Jordan (the best man) keeps trying to throw a wrench in her plans.
Will the wedding take place, and will anything else happen in the meantime?
This was an enjoyable romance with wonderful settings and relationships.

* 2024 update. I must be more careful when reading purchasing favorite author books. I read this and everything felt familiar. Because it was - I read it 5 years ago. Still enjoyed it again.
If you like Sarah Morgan and holiday romances, which I do, you’ll enjoy this book. As with many of Morgan’s books, the setting is as much a character in the book as the people, and oh, I want to go spend one Christmas in Colorado and one in England.
Morgan’s been moving more toward what some call “women’s fiction” (hate that term) in which the non-romantic relationships between women are as important to the story as the romantic relationships. In this story the romantic, family, and friendship relationships are many and interwoven. Mother – Daughter, sister-sister, new mother-in-law/mother. Deftly plotted and interwoven.
Really enjoyed it and it’s going on the annual holiday Christmas reread list. 4/5

I ended my holiday-themed reading with this absolute gem of a romance novel. Rose White is the youngest of two daughters. She wakes her mother up with a late night call to tell her not only that she’s engaged, but also that she plans to get married over Christmas in the Aspen, Colorado—just a few short weeks away. Maggie isn’t so sure this whirlwind wedding is a good idea. Rose has not known the groom for long. Of course Maggie will go to the wedding, as will her husband. But she’s determined not to let on to anyone that she and her husband, Nick, are planning to divorce and have not been living under the same roof for months. It would ruin the happy occasion and break their daughter's hearts. They can pretend to be happily married for their short trip to the United States for the wedding, surely.
The White’s oldest daughter Katie has always been a bit skeptical about this thing called love. She knows Rose is making a mistake, and she plans to do what she can to talk Rose out of this silly impulsive wedding if it is the last thing she does; meanwhile hoping no one will notice the mess her life has become, how she doubts herself and kept hidden the trauma she recently suffered.
Perhaps you can imagine what comes next. Rose begins to doubt her decision to marry her adoring fiancé, Dan, because of her sister’s doubts. There’s the gorgeous best man who sees right through Katie—and to whom she finds herself attracted to in a way she’s never felt before. Then there are Maggie and Nick, empty-nesters who have raised two beautiful daughters and who have grown apart over the years, losing the spark they once had.
Oh my gosh, how I loved this book! Lack of communication is at the heart of the novel and the cause for so much of the characters’ frustrations. If only everyone would talk to each other about what they are thinking and feeling! The novel comes at relationships from several different angles: that of sisters, mother and daughter(s), and the more romantic ones, including that of husband and wife. You also have Katie’s story dealing with the trauma and her need to forgive herself and heal. Sarah Morgan does an excellent job of putting the reader into each of the three protagonists (Rose, Maggie, and Katie) lives, and I could relate to each of them in varying ways. While all three of the women’s stories are strong, I most connected with Maggie. I love that the author included her story—love isn’t just for the young! I thoroughly enjoyed A Wedding in December—and how I would love to stay in one of those tree houses at the resort they were all staying!

Maggie receives a phone call in the middle of the night from her daughter, Rosie, who is attending school at Harvard in the United States. She informs her mom that she's getting married at Christmas to a man she's only been dating for a short time in Aspen Colorado.
Maggie and her husband Nick are separated with a divorce pending but haven't told their daughters yet. They agree to wait until after the wedding to tell them and they agree to pretend to be together during the time period they are in the United States.
Their other daughter, Katie is a doctor who works in the ER in Oxford but is struggling after on the job incident. She also thinks her sister is making a mistake and is not flying to the US the attend the wedding, she's flying their to make sure wedding doesn't happen.
What I really liked about this book is that it seems like I was getting three stories in one. Possibly with three happy endings.....
Christmas books are my absolute favorite to read and this is a very well written and enjoyable book to read.
