This book starts off with the White family traveling to Aspen for a Christmas wedding. Each member of the White family has a secret that they’re hiding, and it all starts to come out during their trip. This will be one Christmas they’re sure to not forget.

I enjoyed reading this book, but it is not your typical “Christmas” read. It is more of a family drama book. I felt like it took me a little while to get into the book. In the beginning there was a lot of inner dialogue and getting to know the characters and their feelings. I did enjoy seeing how things played out, and I loved the ending. If you’re looking for more of a winter vs Christmas read, I would recommend this one!

A Wedding in December is a book that was long overdue. I was supposed to read it for Christmas, but yet, here we are in February. Nevertheless, it was an amazing experience and I am so glad I finally read it.

Sarah Morgan has an extremely good talent in human relations and relationships. She puts these relationships on paper so easily… Do you know that feeling where you can sense people’s mood by just walking into a room? She managed to capture this moment in most of her scenes - and it was a true joy to read that.

The Synopsis

Maggie has two daughters: Katie and Rosie. While Katie has always planned everything in her life and never failed (becoming doctor is her biggest achievement), Rosie is the complete opposite. She changes her mind all the time and never knows what she truly wants.

And one evening, Rosie calls her mum to tell her she is getting married. All of a sudden. Not in her hometown in the UK, but in some snowy mountains in the USA. For Christmas. THIS Christmas. In just a few months.

Everything is happening so fast, and Maggie is afraid for her daughter. But most importantly, Maggie is afraid that she will finally reveal to her girls that she is getting divorced from their dad.

My Thoughts

In a lovely snowy atmosphere, we get to see this family, and their different personalities coming together, in a book where love wins in the end. Reading this book under a warm blanket and with a hot chocolate definitely gave me the true feelings of Christmas again.

I encountered some interesting scenes, a couple of plot twists, a bit of a mystery behind one of the sisters. The importance of mental health as well, and how important is to share our troubles with someone. Anyone.

Some of the relationships, new or current, happened at a very fast pace, which wasn't too my great pleasure. There was some sense of unnecessary urgency which didn't feel believable nor relatable to me. But in hindsight, a wonderful book to spend your evenings with.

If you love romance novels and you also love Christmas, A Wedding in December will probably end up being your favourite book. I highly recommend it!

What an adorable Christmas novel! This one puts more weight into familial relationships compared to the actual romantic relationships but there are plenty of those too. Following the females in the White family (Maggie, Katie, & Rosie), the books main storyline focuses on Rosie's upcoming nuptials in Aspen, CO, with her mother Maggie, sister Katie, and father Nick having to fly from England to attend. Following a 3 month courtship, the lead up to the wedding guarantees drama to ensue and it sure does.

With Maggie and Nick looking divorce straight in their eye and their daughters being none the wiser, their relationship unfolds beautifully and is treated as a mature relationship should be treated. Their storyline exhibits great character growth and I fell in love with them both.

The character of Katie is strong willed and abrasive but, as with any good romance, her shield shatters quickly when she finds a valiant lumberjack in the character of Jordan. I really enjoyed her story. I liked that it exhibited how the pressure she has felt throughout her entire life affects her as an adult and, even though her emotions and reactions were exaggerated at times, it was never to the point of taking me out of the book.

Rosie is supposed to, in a way, be the lead female since hers is the titular wedding in the title. She was probably the weakest of the three storylines for me. I can cut some slack on this point since she is o a mere 22 years old, with less background to build upon in the first place. She comes out as less relatable than the other two though and, in turn, less believable. I think she could have been written as a slightly stronger character than she was and it would have brought more cohesiveness to the story overall.

This should be on everyone's list who reads books catered for the holidays. It exhibited warmth and comfort, with a sense of humor about it that I really enjoyed. The picturesque surroundings in the books are written wonderfully and provide the reader with a firm sense of place that definitely adds too the novel overall. I am greatly looking forward to reading more from Sarah Morgan.

This was the perfect Christmas read! It’s the first book I’ve read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last. I fell in love with the White family and was cheering them on. There were moments I laughed out loud and moments that I wanted to cry for these characters.

Perfect if you’re looking for a cozy, feel good Christmas read with some family drama, but also with some feel good family vibes. This one will warm your heart. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

A lovely holiday story and a great novel that involves family, sacrifice and communication.
It's the first book I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
I loved how the writer developed the characters: they're realistic, likeable, fleshed out and you cannot help rooting for them.
The plot is full of twists and turns and I found it engrossing and entertaining.
I look forward to reading other books by this author.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

I so enjoyed this for a Christmassy December read. It had the ideal combination of drama and light, festive fun. As the White family travels to Colorado to see youngest daughter Rosie get married, they are all forced to focus on their own lives, and whether the paths they have chosen are still right for them. Meanwhile, Rosie finds that the speed of her wedding, and the contact with her parents and sister, are causing doubts to form in her mind.

The character examinations (in sister Katie's case internal analysis, in mum Maggie's through conversation) are fascinating and really give an insight into what has driven their decisions up to this point. But their interactions are also brilliant and at times very funny. In particular, there are a number of car journeys that had me laughing out loud!

The story develops brilliantly and really builds towards the end, but is all underpinned by a beautiful and festive setting that made it such an enjoyable book to read.
