This comic book was weird... I liked some parts of the story, but most of the time it was maybe too weird for me. The art was ok but not really my cup of tea.

The treatment of the Clark Kent side of character in this made me nauseous. The only character who seems to respect Clark in the slightest is Lex and that plays more as him buttering Clark up for his story. I don’t have a whole lot of interest in a Superman story that treats Clark Kent as a throwaway character at best and more often as a punching bag.

This was my first outing into a Superman comic although I am familiar with the character, as much as everyone else is familiar with him in the general public, it made for an entertaining and heartfelt read. Certain issues felt geared towards more hardcore fans which makes sense when writing a story about superman passing but once I read more comics I can see myself coming to appreciate those issues/chapters more. Overall it's a good book and this was just my jumble of thoughts towards it oh and also the stand out chapters is the pocket universe one and the Bizarro world

I was not a fan of Quitely's art-style. The cameos were a tad heavy-handed and sometimes eye-rollingly annoying. However, it does make a quaint end-of-days story for Superman.

Superman being Superman. Cool stuff, a few episodes in the life, mostly later life. Vignettes of superlife. The big players show up-Lois, Jimmy, Lex. Some kooky superman villains, future supermen.

Its biggest drawback is that it can be a bit campy at times. If that doesn't bother you, then you'll be fine. Campiness aside, this book does capture Superman pretty well, both the absurdity of the character and what makes him great. It also doesn't rehash his origin unnecessarily, but references it knowingly (and smartly).

As a final Superman story, I prefer Grant Morrison’s optimistic version here to Alan Moore’s nihilistic horror story “Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?” I also prefer Morrison’s reversion of Lex Luthor to the pre-Crisis mad scientist with a grudge over the boring “cool” corporate villain we’ve mostly had for the last 30 odd years.

This version of Clark Kent is a lot of fun, too. The way he blunders his way through “accidentally” saving people is a delight, and verbal sparring through an interview with an oblivious Lex Luthor, both of them loading almost every word they say with a double meaning, is probably the best bit of writing in the comic.

Can’t wait to revisit the second half.
