Unfortunately this series is not panning out the way I was hoping. I liked this one less than the first & I don’t think I’ll continue the series. I was hoping to dive further into the lore of the Four Horsemen & that there was a larger fantasy-type plot that would unravel, but this feels like the exact same thing as book 1 was copy/pasted onto different characters. I wasn’t a big fan of the characterization or relationships, either, it all felt pretty forced. :(

The new covers for this series EAT tho.

Okay, so in spite of all good sense I am giving this book three stars. It the writing better than Pestilence? God yes. Is it GOOD writing? I would not go that far.

I’ll say basically what I said last time, this author has some legitimately interesting ideas. There were actually some flickers of deep moments and world building. Flickers of character development that made me want to know more. However, where she loses me is her dialogue. War says the word “wife” so many times I started reading it in the Borat voice.

The Mary Sue has pretty much the exact same voice as the previous one with the most jarring slang and profanity thrown in that took me out of the moment every single time. Like your main character is half Jewish and speaks Hebrew, there’s a wealth of vocabulary you could have brought from that instead of saying “holy balls” a dozen times and good god why are we still saying “boobs” constantly.

There were portions where I was like okay this is actually not bad and I’m gaining interest and then it just starts feeling, I don’t know, lazy?

The smut is somewhat better written in this one but I still find myself generally unimpressed by the Mary Sue and unconvinced that she is somehow supposed to be irresistible.

But I obviously hate myself so yes I will read he next book. SIGH

I absolutely LOVED THIS BOOK I LOVE WAR. He was the ultimate enemy, truly. But the burn to lovers was so delish. I love how strong willed Miriam was. She handles an apocalypse better than I ever would have. Seeing how she really won War over, made him see humanity and love. I have so many highlights from this book!

“For your soft heart”

There’s something so different about War compared to pestilence. Pestilence literally abused Sara in the beginning. War always cared for Miriam and never tried to change her and accepted her for who she was despite her trying to literally MURDER him. War never hid who he was from her and she betrayed him after he sacrificed his duties multiple times “for her soft heart” I was literally crying at times in this book and I also wanted to throw It
