I love the Heartbreaker Bay series and was really happy with Joe/Kylie story. The great thing about this series is it balances humor and serious very well. Karen as always did a great job with the narration!

Jill Shalvis is one of my absolute favorites, and one of the few authors where I refuse to wait for the library to get its act together. Case in point: I woke up at 7am to the Available notification from iBooks, and had finished it by 1:30pm, all while working.

The Heartbreaker Bay series is fantastic, and I like each entry better than the last. Super excited for Molly's story later this year!

I received this book from Jill Shalvis' bookaholics.

I can always count on Jill Shalvis for a great read. She always has strong women and men who are not jerks. I so loved Kylie and Joe. And visiting Heartbreaker Bay is wonderful. I loved the story of why Kylie and Joe had to be together. If I had a little penguin figure that meant so much to me I would love having someone like Joe on my side to find it. I'm not sure why it's the Heartbreaker Bay. It seems like the opposite. Keep writing books like this Jill Shalvis and I will be a fan for life.

About That Kiss was a sweet, sultry romance with a love story between an unlikely couple. As my first Jill Shalvis book, I enjoyed the balance between character and relationship buildup, and how there was just the right amount of tension in both as the story progressed. Shalvis captured Kylie's personality well and brought her out of the shell she'd been in, and made her strong for doing it not just for love but for her own self. Anyone who is an old soul like her will find a sense of belonging with that character, and it was something that was palpably felt. Her connection with Joe felt untouched and pivotal, something that built wonderfully as they spent more time together.

With the perfect amount of fun mixed in, About That Kiss was an enjoyable novel from beginning to end. Shalvis' writing was easy to get into and effective in bringing the reader into the story of not just these two characters but past and future characters from the series, too. Even though I started the series with this book, I never felt like something was missing or that it wasn't possible to jump in at any point. With low angst and the perfect amount of butterflies given, anyone who opens this book will fall for it from the first page.

As a side note: There's a line in the book about 'PTSD-proofing' a house. I understand wanting to make your characters' issues seem real, but this line was offensive and a bit ignorant. You can't proof a house from a disorder, any disorder (and for that matter, you can't proof a house from getting PTSD). You can safe-proof a house from someone who has self-harming tendencies, but that is in no way 'PTSD-proofing.' I'm sure the author didn't mean any offense, but as someone with that disorder, I would recommend being a bit more careful in how something is worded.

**Received an early copy from the Publisher; this had no bearing on my opinions**

Joe and Kylie are brought together because her carved wooden Penguin goes missing, next thing she know she’s being blackmailed and the safety of her penguin threatened. This a wonderful story and I’m always a fan of Jill Shalvis. Though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as some of her others I still had a fun time reading About That Kiss.

I love that Kylie had to put her big girls pants on to ask Joe, a friend who she shared a hot kiss with, for his assistance in finding a stolen family heirloom - a carved wooden penguin. Alpha Joe and his need to protect those he cares about adds a fun twist as Kylie is persistent in not being left behind. The more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny their chemistry.

Jill Shalvis does a great job of weaving love, humor and suspense in this book. It's amazing the relationships she's built with this group of friends. It makes you want to drop everything and move there just to be a part of it!

About that Kiss is the fifth book in the Heartbreaker Bay series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the entire series because it's fantastic. I've quickly become attached to these heroes and the women they love. They are all strong, funny and such a tight knit group of people. They are a family. I love how Jill always makes me laugh, cry, swoon and feel like I'm a part of the family. It's one of the things that keep me coming back for more! About that Kiss is Joe's story. Oh man. We've known Joe for a while and he's the quiet, sexy type. I knew his story was going to be deeper than imagined. He didn't have an easy childhood, but he has his sister, Molly, and his dad. They are really close. But he's closed off to women and relationship. His need to protect outweighs his need for love. But when Kylie needs him and they strike a deal, he can't seem to say away from her. She's everything he needs. She makes him actually laugh out loud and picture what a life with her could look like. But he's afraid. Kylie is a talented woodworker. She's independent, pretty and hilarious. Joe doesn't stand a chance. When the situation gets dangerous, will Joe do the right thing or lose Kylie? Will he figure out that falling in love is the answer to his life before it's too late? It all started with a kiss, how will it end? I loved this story. Joe and Kylie are the perfect pair. She makes him laugh, he makes her feel safe. I loved watching the two of them figure it all out! And I loved catching up with all the characters I've grown to love.

"Wow."
"Yeah. So to be clear, that wasn't 'a normal kiss' or even 'a nice kiss.' It was a 'wow' kiss."

"Is your mind always in the gutter?"
"Yes. You might want to remember that."

"Didn't see you coming, Kylie."

"Give me an example where in the first two second what's on the inside is more important than the outside."
"Refrigerator," Sadie said.
"Okay, I stand corrected." Elle laughed.
