Being a fan of his previous four books, I couldn't wait to read J.P. Pomare's latest novel - and it certainly didn't disappoint. Reid is a private investigator (but former cop) who is sent back to his hometown, by an insurance company, to investigate a crash that killed a husband and injured the wife. While there, he discovers two girls have gone missing. Is this somehow linked to the crash? Was the crash even a tragic accident or something more? And why is Reid trying to hide from his past? Well, you'll need to read the book to find out.
Fast-paced. Well-written. Unputdownable.

THE WRONG WOMAN is the first foray from J.P. Pomare overtly set in the US, and it was, for this reader, utterly seamless in its evocation of an American feeling small town. Helped a lot by the central character ex-cop, now Private Investigator Reid being from this particular community, and all too aware of the politics therein, the society and personal pressures and how they can lead to all sorts of problems for all sorts of people.

have loved the previous JP Pomare books I’ve read. And this book is unlike any of these. In fact your expectations of this book constantly change and keep you on your toes, as much as Vince Reid, a private investigator is glancing over his shoulder in a town he swore he’d never return to. The movement from the past to the present is done well, and the character creation was well done.

Reid, a private investigator, is hired by an insurance company to investigate a car crash where a well known (for some of the wrong reasons) professor, Oliver Styles, is killed, and his wife, Eshana, is in hospital in a coma. Coincidentally, this accident occurs in Reid’s hometown, a place he swore he would never return to which is also the place where two young girls have gone missing – there’s a lot to unpack, get your head around and cunningly this author uses all of these events to spin you around blindfolded as you read on. We also are fed morsels about Reid’s begrudging return right up until the very end. What’s connected? What’s a loose end? What need to be revisited? Reid’s investigator prowess is a strength, and as much as it is a demonstration of his dexterity in solving cases and crimes, it is also the very skill that has kept him safe for all these years. His return is the catalyst for it all to be exposed once again. Grab this one to read, and pay attention!

“She tried to run but she wasn’t getting away. She was going to pay for this, they both were.”

Reid fled his small town over a decade ago and swore he’d never return. He made a new life in the city and became a PI. His latest assignment from an insurance firm has offered him money he can’t refuse to look into a suspicious car crash but the catch is he has to go back to the place he grew up.

The towns full of rumours and the investigation doesn’t present anything out of the ordinary on the surface, but the deeper Reid digs the more dirt he finds. When Reid finds himself steering away from the car crash he’s being paid to look into and looking into a second girls disappearance Reid finds himself in a dangerous position.

How far would you go to cover up a web of lies? Like most of Jp novels I devoured this in a sitting, it’s fast paced, full of great charters and a plot that twists and turns right to the last page. There’s so much to unpack in this novel that once it’s over you’re left feeling like you should have savored every page.

I’m a JP fan and have loved his others books, so naturally couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. It was perfection and crime thriller lovers, yes you need it.

I like how the ending answered all my questions in an unexpected way. No loose ends. Now I want to read the author’s other books.

J.P Pomare is just the best at well-plotted, gripping, not overly violent crime that always satisfies. Never misses!

This was my first J.P Pomare novel, and it has opened my shelf to a new author and four new books on my TBR.
The Wrong Woman is about two missing girls, a suspicious car accident and an ex police officer returning to his home town years after promising never to return.
I loved this book. This is written with short and sharp chapters, before the accident, with Eshana, the driver of the car and after, with Reid, the PI looking into the car accident for the insurance company.
I honestly could not put this book down. It was such a fast read for me. I was drawn into the mystery of the two missing girls, the car accident and Reids past, that made him promise never to go home again. It kept me guessing until the very end, and my opinion of various characters changing as we moved through the story.
Such a great read!

This book is incredible, right from the start my heart was racing. This is one of the best suspenseful novels Ive ever read. The storyline is incredible, just when you think you have things all figured out another crazy piece of information makes you rethink everything. Plot twist after plot twist. I recommend this book for people who love fast paced thrillers from the very start.

Can not wait to pick more of J.P Pomare’s books up. I can feel a new addiction coming on.
