I love that this book straight into action, unlike the first book. (I CANT WAIT FOR #3)
*****Edit 3/16/2021*****
AGAIN I’m back to change my rating. I want to try re-reading this, but now every time I think of it, this book makes me feel IMMENSE disappointment and dissatisfaction so lowering it to a 2*
***Edit 3/28/20***
So, I’ve decided to lower my rating to 3* bc every time I think about this book I feel disappointment lollll
*Original review & rating*
4.5*
I genuinely don't know what to rate this book so I am playing it safe and rating it 5* for good measure lol. I might come change it later, but we will see. Baz himself earns each of those 5* which I feel is a good enough reason.
The reason I am having such a hard time deciding on this rating, is due to the fact that reading this book gave me an immense amount of anxiety. I was so, SO worried that something terrible was going to happen to Snowbaz, especially after seeing one of my favorite booktubers give this a low rating. I figured I would have devoured this in two days, but instead it took me over a week to finish. I tried to stay away from reviews because I did not want to be spoiled, and luckily, I wasn't. However I did see the one bad rating and a few people mentioned the "cliffhanger" at the end which made me panic more and caused me to have an aversion towards finishing it. I then saw another of my favorite booktubers rate this as 4 stars, which eased my mind a tiny bit.
This book is different from Carry On and I think the reader can tell right away that the tone is different, more serious. I actually really enjoyed this more serious tone, I appreciated that Simon's trauma and the growth of the characters was actually recognized and explored. I like that this was a way to delve in to what happens to heroes and their friends after the big battle, after the day has been saved.
The other complaint I have (other than this giving me such anxiety) and the reason I think that perhaps this should be a 4* instead of 5* is that I felt like the plot kind of dragged in the middle a bit and I did wonder what the point was for a few moments. Besides this, I did really like learning more about vampires and being introduced to our new character, Shepard.
Of course, my absolute favorite part of this book was Baz. I loved seeing his growth, him coming more into himself, and I loved his chapters so much. He is hilarious and witty and self depreciating and I love every page that blessed me with his inner dialogue. I cannot wait to order a paperback version of this so I can go back through and highlight and underline all the delightful things he said in this book.
I am ready for the third book, mostly because I want to read more of Baz and because I would like some closure concerning Snowbaz.

NGL I was super excited for this book but I was hesitant when the reviews came in.. I had picked it up myself a couple of times but put it back on the shelf because I just wasn't feeling it. In the end, I listened to the audiobook and I think that honestly helped a lot.
I was a bit sad there was only one narrator even though there were five POVs, but the more I listened, the more I realised the narrator was doing different voices for each of the characters. That being said, I don't know if it was really necessary to put so many POVs. I know the previous book had those as well, but I'd have been fine if there had been less (maybe one or two).
The story was great, but I do feel like there could have been more. It didn't really pick up for me until I was about halfway through. I did love the story and the characters enough to give it four stars though.I wasn't a fan of the way Simon and Baz interacted though, I mean I get that there might be some strain on their relationship but I just missed Carry On Simon/Baz. I hope the sequel will have more of them being adorable together, please just give me that.

4.5 Stars
So I went back and forth on how I felt about this book. I liked it, but was it a 4 or 5 star read...ultimately it's knowing that there's another book coming that rounds this up a bit for me. I loved the adventure everyone was on. That part of the story was great. But Baz and Simon's inability to talk to each and just wallow in their misery was soooooooooo frustrating. The book kept getting closer and closer to the end and no one was resolving anything. I was getting ready to beat my head against a wall. But even though this is book leaves a lot unresolved I'm ok with this because I will take more Simon and Baz any day.
I kinda had to giggle at the Brits in America road trip kerfuffle. I actually really enjoyed the shenanigans and absurdity in this story. Sure this time around there's no huge amazing crazy big bad trying to destroy everything, but there's enough of a danger to Agatha to keep things interesting. I enjoyed Simon and Baz's banter throughout I just wanted to have them really talk. I really enjoyed Shepard and can't wait to find out more about him. Of course vampires are in Vegas and California making trouble. But Baz's getting to find out more about what being a vampire can be was a bonus. He's just...it's Baz. Love him.
Next book now please!

this one is funnier, but it's more fluff, some plot comes in eventually
I haven't stayed up this late to finish a book in a long time. Wow. This was amazing! Pleasantly surprised!
cannot tell you why i did not like this book (can absolutely tell you why)
disappointed and angry. so angry i just !!!!
but reading this i realized something: rainbow rowells writing is a hit or miss situation for me.
i liked fangirl (although i got a little bored in the middle). i read eleanor & park and hated it. i LOVED carry on and now i really really REALLY don’t like wayward son. i don’t hate it but it’s far from good.
