This was just not good. The eye-rolling count for this one was somewhere in the hundreds.

Excellent book involving mythology, starcrossed love and plenty of secrets, mysteries and discoveries. I loved everyone in the Delos family - especially Hector. Helen sometimes irritated me - the girl really could use her brain for deduction better and not live in denial. The idea with Troyan war is brilliant, as well as names of the characters, and though at first the action develops slowly - it speeds up with every page and the ending is pretty head-turning. Absolutely highly-recommended!
I honestly don't understand, how some readers can give only one or two stars to this book (there are plenty of such ratings on Goodreads). Even if this is not your type of book - it deserves at least 3 stars. If you don't know or understand Greek mythology - don't read books based on it - there is no need to diss the author's hard and amazing work and belittle it with such ratings. You also confuse potential readers - they think the book isn't worth attention and miss a really good reading experience. It happens that some books demand patience and applying your memory skills more than others, but that's not a reason to be mean in your review and call the book boring. What is infuriating, that some readers haven't finished the book - read only several chapters and they deliver their judgement as if they know what happened in the book. That is not fair!

This book was a pleasant surprise. I am usually skeptical when it comes to books that are priced at $0.99 on NOOK, but I'm so glad I decided to give this a try (also, apparently that was a special since the book is now $7.99). I must admit, the writing isn't all that great and the formatting seems kind of choppy (but maybe it was just my bargain e-book format). As the title suggest, this is a story about forbidden love, but I feel there was so much more to it than that. It was the extremely interesting characters and the elaborate Mythology background that kept me interested until the very end. I will definitely buy the sequel!

actually i have never heard of the book before. i just stand at the book shop and looking around for a new book (even if i still was reading one) and starcrossed catched my eye. but it took me a while to start reading it because i was not sure why i bought it in first place and it did not realy catch me standing at my bookshelf at home. after running out of books and ideas i gave it a try and i was quite suprised that i could not stop reading. it was hard to put down and i read it in one day that's one of many reasons why i gave four stars because it's not easy to get me glued to the pages like this book does.
it reminds me of twilight and the immortal instruments. i am kind of into the story of two lovers who are not allowed to be together and the drama around it. yes, it is very similar to a lot of other books a have read lately (twilight, immortal instruments, fallen, crescendo etc.) but still i think the mix of the current time with demigoods and greek mythology is a good idea.
and if you are more into good writing skills than the story and charakters itself you might not read books for young adults ;-)

i can't wait to get to read the second book next year in may. i think it's almost cruel to have us wait so long...

I bought this book on a whim. The blurb intrigued me and when I posted a photo of it on facebook, I was told by a couple of friends that it was a great read. I have to admit, I was dreading it being a rehash of Romeo and Juliet - I hate that play - but it wasn't, even if the theme of 'forbidden love' isn't a new one.

I started reading it, and have to admit, I was very confused for most of the first quarter of the book. I couldn't work out why Helen and Lucas hated each other, and usually I'm quite good at working things like that out. Not only that, Helen's attitude towards her friends and the way it changed so drastically utterly confused me. That's what kept me reading. I needed to know what the hell was going on; and I have to admit, I didn't expect what happened.

Being a bit of a history buff, the way Angelini wove in modern day with ancient myths fascinated me. It actually made me want to read more about the characters she has utilised in this story - not just her books, but actual non fiction ones also. The way she has used mythology to tell a modern day story isn't a new approach, but I thoroughly enjoyed the way she did it. Trickle feeding the reader to keep them engaged isn't easy as many readers are able to predict twists and turns, especially if they read the genre a lot.

The characters are realistic, well as realistic as myths and legends can be, and I found myself both liking and disliking them in equal measures. They had faults and weren't 'cookie cutter' characters. To me, this is always a good thing because I want to make the mistakes alongside them and then learn from them. Helen and Lucas in particular did this. The supporting cast did also, which emphasised the fact that they were normal teenagers in an abnormal setting.

I can't wait to go out and get book two to read. This is a series I will definitely read more than once.

This new take on Greek Mythology has definitely been an eye opener. I struggled with Greek Mythology in both high school and college. The stories seemed foreign to me. Starcrossed gives modern twist to Greek Mythology that captivated me.

Starcrossed is a beautifully told story about fate and destiny. Helen's character is a typical teenage girl who finds herself playing a role in a modern "Helen of Troy" whose actions are guided by "The Furies." In the beginning I was surprised by the strong reactions that took place between the characters. Helen had a repulsive response to the Delos Family, in the beginning, for reasons unbeknownst to her. She will have to figure out what each of the events mean to her and those who surround her.

The question I kept asking myself while reading this magnificent story was...Do we really have control over our lives or is everything left to fate and destiny? I have always believed that we are free to make the choices that define our lives, but I am not sure how true this is. What do you think.

I loved this book because there was plenty of action to keep me interested and Helen's emotions became my emotions. I am definitely looking forward to the sequels to Starcrossed.

Josephine does an incredible job writing this phenomenal adaptation of modern Greek Mythology. It is an addicting and contemporary tale!
