Interesting & engaging, definitely was a good impetus to get out and even more than I currently do (which to be fair, is a lot). Irritating that while the author spent a lot of time researching many subjects, he seems to have done zero research into current studies on obesity, as many of his comments indicate a fundamental misunderstanding of the science of weight and weight loss (for example “if getting information out there was the solution, we would have no anti-vaccine movement, no smokers, and no obesity”) which was disappointing & served (for me) to undermine his position as expert on most of the other things he discussed.

Great read! For anyone who loves walking or perhaps better even for those who don’t love it… yet. This will inspire you to get out of your chair and move around!

My rating is probably closer to 2.5 stars, as I did enjoy parts of this book but it was quite different than I thought it would be. It is definitely science heavy, and takes the reader on an evolutionary journal through bipedalism. I liked the second half of the book more, once it got into more of the social science stuff, which is what I was more interested in reading about. The book kind of jumped all over the place and didn't always feel the most coherent, but I appreciated how much the author seemed to really appreciate walking, with all it's complexities and benefits, and their enthusiasm did come across well in the book.

I found some chapters very interesting, but a few weren’t.
It feels like someone interested in a detailed explanation of the mechanics of walking, is not necessarily interested in the interesting psychological benefits of it. It being in one book left parts feeling quite long.

I love this book. It brought in so much information about walking, both in psychology and anthropology. I’ve been walking a lot more because of this book! Absolutely informative and gives a good glimpse into the wonders of going around just taking a walk. Must read!

Almost had me at a 4.
Kept it at a 3 when he (and other authors do it as well) make blanket statements about various highly-debatable policy topics (not even necessarily the main topic of the book itself - often tangential topics) from one side and presume it is "settled science" and every one of their readers is lockstep (walking pun) with that particular theory, ideology, conclusion.
Overall a good book and fun read.
