Was it a great book devoid of flaws, maybe not - but the vibes were. And that’s what I’ve been surviving on lately.
Graphic: Rape
DNF @ 19minutes in. I can just tell that this writing style is not for me. It’s too descriptive without actually discussing actions

Right at the end of a book is NOT a great time to disciver this is book 1 in a series. That's what I get for going into a book blind aside from 'There's a Poisoner who tries to kill him (a vampire) and fails but he falls in love with her'. That sentence alone had me so intrigued I just had to read it. And sure, 60% of the book is their cat and mouse game where she tries to kill him and he tries to get into her pants. And then a little over halfway they make a deal where she gets to study his poison/blood which is the least self-preservation act a creature can do but whatever, it got him in her pants I guess? I did like their banter.
I did not care for the last 20% or so, where she gets kidnapped and abused and Silas does nothing? And I do not get how she escaped that Den. Like one moment she poisons Luka and the other she's on a boat? What happened inbetween? I don't know if I'm gonna read the next books in this series... If it weren't for the narrators (who were absolutely AMAZING) I think I might've soft DNF'ed.

Enjoyed the book, couldn't put it down until it was done. Loved the different take she did!
Despite the controversial opinions and reviews. Author states there are reasons for certain situations that are explained in the book, and they are explained. Doesnt mean justified. It is a first in the series and cannot wait for the second book to be released in Oct and see where it goes next.

4.5⭐️ - 1🌶
☆ Vampire x Poisoner
☆ Victoria era gothic vibes
☆ Enemies to lovers
☆ Morally black obsessive MMC
☆ Stalker
☆ FMC in STEM
I went in blind, as always, and this one did not disappoint. The banter? Sharp. The MMC? Deliciously obsessive and stalking like it’s a full-time job. And the FMC? A brilliant, witty queen who knows her way around both science and trouble.
The romance simmered in the background while the story kept dropping mystery after mystery, some of which actually made my jaw hit the floor. That cliffhanger, though. Criminal behavior. I’ll be eagerly waiting for book two.

I hope you will wear something nicer next time. I like it when my meals come with those pretty little garnishes.
They were more like torture devices, which made my blood flow to surprising places at the thought.
I will not forgive you if you die without my permission.
I realized that it wasn't you who scared me the most. What scared me is what would happen to me without you.
I want all of you, not just blood. I want every piece of flesh that clings to your bones and more. I want to own every expression that crosses that pretty face. Every hair on your head belongs to me, no part of it untouched by my hands.

this remains my favorite dark gothic romance!
i love these characters so much, flaws and all 🖤
highly rec immersive reading this, i read along with the audiobook this time and the clicking 🙇🏻♀️ is everything. i can’t wait to see what is in store next for this series. these characters will always live rent free in my mind.
“you know what i want? i want you, alina. all of you. every hair on your head. every tear, laugh, and scream that rips from your delicate vocal cords will all become mine.”
first read - nov 3, 2024:
be still my little gothic heart. i am unwell, and i'm going to need a while to process that ending.. please, please, please, check the trigger warnings before diving in. this is a DARK romance. if the triggers do not scare you away, my hope is that you read this with an open mind holding grace for both alina and silas as the fictional characters they are.
this is victorian era, enemies to reluctant lovers with vampires, gothic atmostphere so thick you could cut it with a knife, and god tier banter 🖤🖤 enjoy

Dark Gothic romance. Touch her and ☠️. Enemies to lovers. This book took me by surprise. It was original and strange and so interesting. I did immersive reading and it was a great experience specially since it has the clicking noises he makes. At first it was creepy and I loved every second of it. I loved how strong the FMC was fighting back with the MMC and the banter. His obsession with her! It had the potential for me to give it 5⭐️. The last few chapters threw me off. And the cliffhanger confused me but also makes me want to read book 2 even more. Now wait till October.
