The moment I heard about this book and that the main character was suffering from Chronic Pain, I knew I had to had it. And when I saw the low price on Amazon it all of a sudden ended up in my basket and was ordered. And when I started reading yesterday, I already knew I was so not gonna regret it!

Rose, the main heroine, has lived through a horrible attack of her city Boston and has now Chronic Pain. And that description of the chronic pain, how it behaves, how it influences your life, how it's different each day and unpredictable, how you'll never know if you'll have a good or a bad day, how doctors want to keep on experimenting, even when they can't give any new information or solutions, it all felt very familiar, without it feeling like the main focus of the story.

Because the chronic pain was only a small part of the story and the overall plot, that was absolutely gripping and at times even very surprising. I didn't read the first series, so the entire world was new to me, but I enjoyed the world building and the mythology and I can't wait to learn more about it in the upcoming books. Rose's search for answers about the world and who she is, is addictive.

Okay, and maybe the three brother she meets along the way are addictive too. I loved how each of the brothers was different, but they were all easy to fall for. I could totally identify with Rose and why she would so quickly admit that she was in love with them. And I'm really enjoying those #whychoose novels where there are no ugly fights over pretty girls and where the girl doesn't have to hurt some guys to be with the other.

And now I'm counting down the days until the next book is released.

Rose is the first in this brand new series from the author. Though it was a spin off the Briar series and I haven't read it yet, this is a stand alone and previous characters appeared on this book. This is contemporary, paranormal romance.

The story was about Rose, the wonder child who survived the Nightmare that happened a decade ago. Doctors couldn't describe her ability to heal fast and her hard like stone skin, not only that, they couldn't find the source why she suffered chronic pain. This makes Rose, for me, a strong willed woman, the kind who doesn't give up in life and strives to survive one day at a time. For a long time, she tried to live through the pain and attention from those who didn't believe her claim of demon sightings. Until one day, her pain mysteriously goes away when she met Horus, and his brothers Seti and Ra.

Rose is a great start with its world building for the next book but with still enough mystery that will make you ask for more and beg for the next installment. Though there was instant attraction between Rose and her men, I love the slow build up of the relationship that makes it more realistic. The story was told through multiple POV, and it was a perfect way to differentiate and get to know the guys, what they feel and thinking.

I was intrigued to know more of the guys' backstory especially when it was let slip what they really were *gasp*. I have a feeling that the next book will be action packed and maybe, steamier on the relationship side. Really enjoyed this one!

***SPOILER ALERT***

SUMMARY: The book hooks you at the beginning when monsters have taken over Boston. Our main character, Rose, as a child, is being eaten alive by one of the slithering monsters. Rose is saved by a good-looking man named RA. Eventually the monsters disappear and everyone forgets that night. Rose, as the sole survivor of the "Boston Nightmare," continues to live her life in chronic pain as a symptom of the monster's bite. She visits her doctor frequently so he can draw her blood, under the guise that he's trying to fix her condition. As she's leaving the hospital one day, two good-looking men named Seti and Horus walk past her and they all feel a pull to one another. Seti and Horus convince Rose that they can bring her to doctors who can help her. In taking Rose to the new doctors, Seti and Horus introduce her to their brother Ra. Ra and Rose are surprised by the reunion and though they also feel the pull, Ra is resistant to starting a relationship with the grown-up Rose. They find out that Rose's former doctor was using her for her blood. When they try to track him down to find out more, the doctor has disappeared and Rose is attacked by a horde of monsters. The book finishes with the discovery that the former doctor was using Rose's blood to create an army of monsters.

WHAT I LIKED: I read some 150 Reverse Harem books in 2020 and this one had some unique details. For one, Rose's blood is poison to her harem. Rather than lusting after drinking it, they actually have to avoid it. Also, none of the members of the harem have ever shared a woman before. It's completely new to all of them and it will be interesting to see how they deal with the obstacles that could present.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The foreword does say that this is a spin-off of the Midnight's Crown series and that we'll see some familiar characters, but I was shocked by the large role these characters played in the story. I can't imagine how confused someone who hasn't read Midnight's Crown would be reading this book. I actually read that series and I was still confused as to why the Midnight's Crown characters were even in Rose's story. You can tell Briar and her harem are close to Ra, Seti, and Horus but we have no idea why other than the fact they are vampires too. It felt like 50% of the book had Briar and her harem in it or mentioned and it felt so contrived. They did not add anything to Rose's story, but rather detracted from it. So much time was spent on Briar and her harem when it could've been dedicated to developing Rose's character, harem, and story line.

Really liked this! Sad that I cannot continue this series until the next one comes out...

2nd time reading:
Hmm. Now I don’t really know I felt about this one after reading Briar’s series. I didn’t really feel the connection between Rose and her men. I also found it really weird when Briar’s family all fled when all they had to do was take down one human man??

I think RP is my guilty pleasure. Why? Because it feels like the books I've read lack a lot of necessary things, but I still love them. I'll still finish this series even if it's three stars.
