Read aloud: Reading this with my five and seven year old during December was so fun! They loved the book and I enjoyed it more this second time around!

Original read: This was a fun, cute read! It wasn't quite what I was expecting from all the hype.

I loved each of the kids; once the story got going, they had such distinct personalities that made you want to root for them. The plot itself was predictable, but I didn't mind and there times that the anticipation made the moment all the more sweet. My favorite part of the book, though, was how well the community was portrayed. I really felt his engrained into this area the family was and felt why they didn't want to leave.

I didn't love the beginning. It was hard for me to keep track of the four sisters at first and also some of the side characters who were introduced. Once I got into the story, the problem resolved itself.

Overall, this is one I'd highly recommend to anyone who enjoys middle grade.

I loved the character Oliver! He was such a cute written character that I think many people can relate to in some way or another.
The whole family was so cute, and the way the children works so hard to try to renew their lease for the place where they live is so amazing!!
Not my favourite, but it wasn’t bad :)

An incredibly heartwarming read. Made me smile on more than one occasion!

This book is a little gem as it is very well written with many intertwining story lines. There are, after all, 5 children's stories to be told and then the overarching story that the family has been given notice and needs to find a new home just before Christmas.
It can be said that the story is somewhat sugar coated as there is a happy outcome for all and this certainly does not represent the experience of many children whose parents are evicted.
However, the sibling dynamics and each of the children in themselves are so very well crafted, it was a joy to live through this story with them and see how they evolve and learn and grow up.

One of the best middle grade novels we have ever read. Witty, funny, heartfelt, and also filled with sorrow. Can’t wait to read the next one.

Such a delightful read. I felt like watching a Christmas movie.
