For some reason this one had a little less of the Elisa Braden secret sauce for me and dragged a little

FMC (Annabelle): 3.25 (she was a gossiping sweetheart - oxymoron - but I wished the angst was dialed up or the payoff for her was greater)
MMC (Robert): 3 (did he actually love her as much as she loved him? I don’t like that I’m not sure…)
💕: 3.75 (definitely was told more than felt their “golden” and “intangible” connection - the length of separation made no sense…did love the nickname bumblebee though)
Plot: 2.75 (what was the point of the caricaturist plot line 😭 and why did the poor grandfather have to die?)
🌶️: 3.5
Writing: 3.5

This book started out in the most delicious and delectable way. I had no idea how any relationship would ever recover from that opening, and knew we were in for a treat!!

It was so intriguing and great moments of mystery but the emotional connection was a little lost in the midst of the action. The MMC was so set on protecting the FMC that we lose the why behind the need to protect so fiercely.

It also needed to be steamier. Truly a repetitive chapter could’ve been cut for some more steam.

I am loving the world Elisa Braden has created, and reading this was such a joy.

The first half was really good but it waned towards the end. I loved the RFR series but it lately seems to have lost the spark. It was nice to read about old characters before they got together but I couldn't keep my focus on the story.

Annabelle's antics at 13 seem to be obsessive rather than a teenage crush. I get that Robert and Annabelle have a connection but I was not able to feel that throughout the book. Their conflict did not seem to be really a conflict. All issues seem to have gotten over really quickly. She quickly forgave him for breaking her heart, he quickly forgave her for her teenage antics. And for a book to be "Rescue from Ruin" series, there wasn't much rescue and not much ruin. It all seemed to be part of Robert's thinking.

Knowing Elisa Braden's amazing storytelling this book was a disappointment for me.

Story was kind of slow and not much happened. I mightveliked this book more if I hadn’t listened to the audiobook, the narrator reads in such a weird way and it completely ruined the book for me.

First book by Elisa Braden. I really enjoyed the writing and was particularly fond of Annabelle and Robert's bond.

I'll definitely read more of the series.

Boy this book was different. So much angst and guilt between MCs. This book gave me Day of the Duchess and Diary of Miss Miranda Cheever vibes. I am confused as how to rate it. I settled on 4.0 stars due just because it was so emotional even though lacked steam. Good sweet romance about childhood love. The letters in the beginning of each chapter were hearwrenching.
