I wanted to like this book. It’s clearly a well written book, and has all the right pieces for something I’d love. But unfortunately it just ended up being ok for me. I had to work to finish it, mainly because I didn’t love or connect with any of the characters. Mostly I think because we didn’t spend enough time with any one character to actually get the character development and depth to actually connect with them.
4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because I think that's what my rating will be when I read it with my eyeballs. The audio-book narration is gorgeous, but I need to be able to flip back to check how all these wonderfully complex pieces fit together. I'm looking forward to it!

I thought the book was fantastic in the beginning, very confusing but I didn't mind. But by the end it all just feels like a set up for the next 2 books (which it is but I felt like barely anything substantial to the plot happened in this book, only set up and explanation)
The switch between third person pov and first person pov is very cool and well done, the first time it happened I was amazed!

This book is so strange and beautiful.
The writing should be studied in schools. I could read it 10 more times and keep finding new things. It IS challenging. At first, I wanted to start a list of each character and place and monster and narrator. Instead, I just gave into it. Let it take me along its ebb and flow and eddy.
This doesn’t sit within the confines of any genre and there’s no synopsis that would do it justice. Even the author wrote a half-explanation half-apology blog post on his site.
No Gods, No Monsters is the first in a trilogy and I am fully on board for the next 2 books.
