Shameless was somewhat of a very personal experience for me.
Although it was in a different situation and way, I've had the big displeasure of loosing friends in car accidents and them leaving behind their children, born and unborn.
Obviously I cried my way through the book, but it was such a cleansing cry.
I absolutely adored Lee Martin's writing, the way she described everything and made me feel the deep grief, not just from the adults, but also, and especially, Izzy's, dear God, I did not know that words could cut that deep.
The story was absolutely breathtaking and heartbreaking, but it was also so very warm and so much what I expect Southern life to be.
I loved how she involved secondary characters while still keeping focus on the main couple, how she showed that sometimes strangers are what makes your heart go light again.
I could practically taste the deep need to be together, not just from Katherine, but from Brady, especially from him.
I was so happy to finally trip over an alpha male that is not just unfeeling and denies his feelings throughout the whole book.
The plot was absolutely brilliant and so damn near reality, I was scared.
In my eyes THIS should be on the big screens.
This was my first book written by Martin, but I'm definitely looking out for others she has in her repertoire and can't wait to gorge further on her wonderful, wonderful words.
LEE, IF YOU READ THIS, I WANT TO BE YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND AND #1 FAN! ... Also, I'd love to be your stalker, all with consent of course.

Finally. Goddamn getting through this book was a chore. Okay so I don’t feel right giving this book a rating because I think the problem might have been me and not the book. It took me over half a month to get through it and it was the first book that I started during the reading slump I am currently in. So I’m having a difficult time differentiating whether the problem was me or the book. So I quite enjoyed the first 1/3rd of the book but idk what happened after that but the rest of the book took me more than two weeks to finish. It just felt slow and was dragging. The characters weren’t as enjoyable to read about after that point and it just felt as though the plot was being elongated for the purpose of making this a whole book. However by this point I was reading sporadically and this book just couldn’t keep me hooked anymore. Maybe it was just to contemporary and so couldn’t get me out of my slump so I couldn’t ac enjoy the book. Idk. Rn I would give this book 2.5/3 stars, but I feel that that would be unfair to the author bc I wasn’t in the right mindset to read this book when I did which has most likely swayed my opinion of the book.
4.5 Shameless Stars
I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started this book. But I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.
I enjoyed Brady, so very much his heart is clear to see in every page. He does so much for everyone else, you can’t help but want to be the one to be there for him.
Katherine take on so much as well she has an incredible heart that needs some tender loving. And Brady is just the man for the job. Only no he doesn’t and can’t start a new relationship right now.
The loss of loved ones is hard on everyone but its hardest on the ones left behind. And this story really shows some of the struggle with that. I don’t know if I could have held it together the way Brady does. He is a character I look up to.
Loved the narration! It was fabulous both narrators brought this story to life, it felt so real and a book I will recommend.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Shameless was such a cute (but somewhat frustrating) read! There were tons of feel-good moments but also a lot of heart-breaking ones. It’s hard to believe that this was my first Lexi Martin book because I have been missing out… The way Martin writes such believable characters and capture nuances that other authors struggle to deliver, is pretty amazing! I also really liked the writing style and ended up breezing through this book pretty fast.
♡Plot:♡
When Brady Shepherd’s (26) brother and sister in-law, Cal and Mel, are killed in a horrific freak accident, he becomes the sole guardian of his baby niece, Izzy. Dropping everything in Boston, he heads off to his late-brother’s farm in Texas. And that's when he meets Mel’s best friend/babysitter, Katherine Duran (23). They're instantly attracted to each other and what's more, they find solace in each other amidst the grief and heartache they share.
As they test the waters and fall deeply in love with each other, they both hold back due to the prospects of Brady returning to Boston.
♡Characters♡
I loved Brady and Katherine so much! They were both such well-rounded characters with convincing backstories and awesome dreams. Katherine was such a sweetheart. Everything about her was just so lovely and endearing!
Brady was such an honourable man with a big heart of gold. Look, I have a thing for tattoo artists and tatt’d men anyways, so I had no problem liking Brady from the get-go. He’s different from the alpha heroes I tend to gravitate towards, but he was enigmatic in his own way. I loved how all-in he was the moment he met Katherine and Izzy. He pulled his weight around the farm and in their home. And even in the midst of dealing with his grief, shame and guilt, he was still so dependable.
Izzy was such an adorable baby! I wanted to her hug to bits. Seeing the way she was taken care of by Brady and Katherine made me smile so hard.
♡The Romance♡
Brady and Katherine were such an adorable pair! They were honestly so perfect for each other - both so hardworking, selfless and loving. I really enjoyed their banter and flirting, and I loved their pizza and movie dates. The author didn’t try to romanticize the farm life at all but instead, highlighted the little moments of domesticity and joy they found in their daily lives.
I really loved their conversations – especially the way they could talk about everything. One of my favourite moments between them was when Katherine was sharing her backstory about growing up poor and being the daughter of migrant workers. The way Brady responded WITH SUCH HUMBLENESS made me so emotional!
♡ Other thoughts / Criticisms:♡
I really loved the farm setting. I never expected to get so attached to random farm animals, especially the pet raccoon!
The first half of the book was heading towards 5 stars, however, I do think the middle dragged on a lot more than I would’ve liked. It got very repetitive as Brady and Katherine were both holding back their feelings due to circumstances seemingly out of their control. And the dual perspective only reinforced a lot of the repetition. This book definitely could’ve been a lot shorter! I just felt like a lot of their problems could’ve been easily resolved if Brady had been more decisive about staying or leaving. (Also… I’m not American but can someone please tell me if Texas and Boston are really that far apart. I literally just looked at Google Maps and checked out the flights and I don’t see what the big deal is… They’re literally in the same country.)
Unfortunately, a lot of really sweet moments just felt very bogged down because of these unsaid feelings. Also, when the problems were resolved at the end, it almost happened a bit too quickly and conveniently in my opinion.
Overall, Shameless was a pretty emotional yet hopeful read. Despite its faults, I really enjoyed this one and I’d recommend this book for readers who are looking for a sweet romance with many heartfelt moments.
(FYI – this is a spin-off to the Dearest series but this book can be read as a standalone as I have done)

“The baby crawls into my lap, and I hook my arm around her and hug her closer, vowing to do my best to take care of her. Her chubby little cheek drops to my shoulder, and it’s all I can do to keep from breaking down.”

Okay, I think I found another auto buy author??
Shameless follows the romance between Brady and Katherine.
Brady is a tattoo artist from Boston, but relocates to Texas when a tragic leaving his brother and his brother's wife dead. Now Brady is left caring for their baby and their Lavender farm. It is here he meets Katherine. Katherine was best friends with his brother's wife and was kind of a live-in nanny for them. Not only that, but Katherine did a lot for the farm as well. She made essential oils, soaps, etc, that they would sell at farmers markets and whatnot.
Brady and Katherine work together to keep the farm thriving and coparent baby Izzy.
If you have seen Life As We Know it, this gave me those vibes. (but different, of course).
