One day at the beach with no work is all I needed. Quite the twist at the end. Enjoyed this one a lot.
Please stop calling him your brother. Other than that--enjoyed seeing a resolution to the Cameron mystery.
So. The last book in the Harper Connelly series. I've said before that I really like the concept behind this series - but the romance between Harper and her step brother is a bit creepy. Yes I know they're not related. Yes it was flagged up very early on in the series that this might be the way the relationship turned, but it still is a bit weird. And the focus on that relationship takes away from the actual murder plots - which are the bit that I like.
And this book - being the last in the series - unsurprisingly ties up some of those loose ends that have been hovering over Harper - her fractured family, her issues over her childhood and her missing sibling Cameron.
And I can't really say too much more without revealing the twists. But I will say there are some nutty nutty twists and turns in this book. It's not entirely satisfying, but I can't imagine a way that this series could have been resolved in a neat way that worked on every level. It is a little fantastical though.
I'm glad I read this series in order - because I'm not sure I'd've stuck with it if I'd come to this first (and this was the first in the series that I had a copy of - it's been sitting on the shelf whilst I went back and picked up the others so that I could read them in the order the author intended.

I've loved the Harper Connelly series so far, but this one just didn't do it for me as much as the others. For me, the story took way too long to build up and came crashing down just as fast. I read 260 pages of build up just for the book to come to a conclusion within 40 pages. In my opinion, the whole story just ended too quickly. I felt like I waited all this time to get a really good, interesting ending to it all and it was sort of a cop out.
I understand that others may like this, so don't take it to heart. :)

I actually bought this book in hardback (with a big coupon) because I really wanted to know what happened to Cameron. I found out. Good plot twist. I actually find this series more compelling than the Sookie books. It's all about humans (although there's one very special) making right, wrong and complicated decisions
I've loved this series, except for the Harper/Tolliver marriage thing. The budding romance I could take; the marriage I could not. I mean I guess it makes sense and is a naturally conclusion to the relationship, and since they've known each other for years, and have lived together for years, they've already covered the whole getting-to-know-you part. The marriage just seemed a little sudden and contrived.
Oh well, overall I still loved the whole series, and would happily read it again.

I am still sad that there are only four books in this series, and it seems she wrote them having only planned on four books. But I was very happy with the story and the resolution. Always leave them wanting more, I guess. Too bad there won't be more in the Harper Connelly series. :-\
I spent a lot of this book wavering between loving the story and and cringingly waiting for Charlaine Harris to do something so monumentally...her that I would finish the book hating both her and what she'd done to the story and "my" characters. I was pleasantly surprised to find that she didn't "Sookie" the series at the end.
