I really avoid books with cops and sometimes military 'cos its not my scene, this one and its prequel I just started reading without having read the preview. And believe me it was the smartest thing I've ever done 'cos I might have not picked it up, though being Mary Calmes book I'd prolly would have read it at some point... anyways I'm rambling.

This book continues to where the other left off and just when you think things will finally go well, and you like Sam once more, all hell breaks loose and let me tell you, Sam once more becomes the love to hate guy... until half way through :)

For me Sam should have done a lot more grovelling than he did but Jory is sooo in love with him he just couldn't resist for long.

I felt that some of the action could be left out from the book without it losing anything from the plot but Jory being who he is it'd be difficult to get the closure he feels he has to.

The sex scenes are PHENOMENAL, without them making this a pwp book but more like adding a bit more edge to it.

Thank you Mary Calmes for the great series ^^

Well I have to say that this was more over the top than [b:A Matter of Time, Vol. 1|8578291|A Matter of Time, Vol. 1 (A Matter of Time, #1-2)|Mary Calmes|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1334772211s/8578291.jpg|14203921] . I listened to this story by the same narrator as the first and I still find him a bit odd/quirky but was used to it by now. Again I do think he does Jory and Sam's voices really well which is what counts since they're the MC's.

It's three years later and a series of events throws Sam and Jory back together. Further complicating their new relationship is a serial killer on the loose that personally affects Jory and those he loves. There are so many hijinks that this guy goes through
Spoiler - he's kidnapped, carjacked, and almost raped. He also gets beaten up a couple of times in between diffusing a hostage situation and being thrown in jail. Jory was unbelievably absurd and reckless in his single minded pursuit of the bad guy. But wait - remember he's superman. Indestructible, lucky beyond belief and still with that amazing power to make men and women (gay or straight) fall in love with him within 5 minutes. Well, actually - 2 minutes tops.
. Regardless of the unbelievable twists and turns I still found this hilarious and most importantly, entertaining. It had some endearing, swoony, sexy moments especially with Sam which I quite enjoyed (Sam for sure remains in the top 5 in the category of the most alpha male ever).

What I also appreciate from Mary Calmes is that a lot of the story is just Sam and Jory navigating their relationship and their lives - something a reader doesn't often get in a romantic suspense because all the focus is usually on the mystery. If you haven't read the series I urge you to bite the bullet and go on this wild ride. Can't wait to see what the next installment brings!

Oh come on!!! You have got to be freakin kidding me! That ending? That cliffhanger?? Really?

Well I can see how some readers take issue with Jory and how loved he is on immediate sight. I admit that it was a bit over the top and I'm not sure how I would have interpreted many of his interactions had I read the book instead of listened to it because the narrator had me envisioning him a bit dismissive, a bit aloof, a bit wishy washy - with a dash of player thrown in.

This is only my second foray into Calmes' works. The way she writes Jory, the man could probably solve world peace among his long list of other talents.
SpoilerHe literally has complete strangers inviting him to family dinners, diffuses fights with a look or a word, makes things magically better with a hug and/or a cup of tea, and has every man and woman (gay or straight) in love with him within 5 minutes.

However I can see the appeal of this series. There's definitely some good humorous banter and sexy talk and heat (no erotica here). The GFY developed pretty quickly but apparently that's to be expected (please see above). I had to suspend belief just a little but it works. What is it about the angst of a cop who can't come out of the closet? (Ahem, I'm talking to you Jake Riordan.) Sam does get his shit together after so many fights I lost count - only to have us pulling out our hair with the ending. Does that make for a compelling read? Sure! At least I can safely breathe a sigh of relief that the whole series is out. There's no waiting an interminable amount for the next fix.

*Re-read 9/7/14 for Re-Romancing the Faves Challenge. I still love Jory and Sam, but God does Sam drive me batsh!t at the wedding, and I feel like the wedding is wholly unnecessary to the story. I just don't understand why Sam who's crazy jealous over anyone even looking at Jory allows the hyena to give him a lap dance, leave lipstick on his collar and hang all over him for the entire wedding weekend. And why does Jory let him off the hook so easily? GRRR!!!

*Originally read 9/3/11

Second time through, and I loved it even more, if that's possible. I adore Jory! This whole series is a must-read, as far as I'm concerned.

I think I only made it through this book (and Vol 2) because I listened to it on Audiobook, and Paul Morey reads shit so sexy. His Sam (and Danny, per [b:Shades of Gray|7824322|Between Shades of Gray|Ruta Sepetys|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327873479s/7824322.jpg|10870318] voice is straight up hot. I'd listen to any book he read with that voice. But, as others have said, Jory is totally Mary Sue, Sam is kind of a douche, and the plot is just wild. Also, allllll the names. Jory introduces a new friend like every paragraph. Fucking annoying.
