Ahh, who can resist a detective novel set in the future, featuring lots of high-tech and fast-paced action along with a fascinating cast of colorful characters. I love these books and grabbed it off the shelf the second I saw it, despite the number of books already sitting next to my bed waiting to be read. And it didn’t disappoint.

Not one of my favorites but still solid. This lacked the investigative parts I enjoy and was more about trapping the guilty party.

A fav in the series
One of my fave JD Robb novels. A clear antagonist, with a case that allows the characters to just "do the job" without a ton of trauma to work through. The Eve Dallas character is always complex and interesting in all the books, but it's nice to give her a case that doesn't require her to sift through her personal traumas. I also enjoy the focus on her bullpen and colleagues, so it isnt "Eve and Roarke" solving the case, but rather solid police work.
This book starts out with a convenient store robbery and murder. Dallas gives Peabody lead in the investigation. Peabody rocks it!
Afterwards Peabody goes to the gym to work out. Having had a little trouble in the scuffle to arrest the thieves and murdeurer.
As she finishes her shower she is about to get out when the doors burst open, she stays hidden in the stall and she overhears a covert meeting about illegal actions of cops; cops on the take and murder. Stuck naked in the shower, she knows if she gets out alive she has to report them.
She reports to Eve and the ball is rolling to figure out the validity of the information.
This one is my favorite of the series.
The dynamics of characters and how Eve and Peabody destroy the "wrong cops"(dirty cops)! Boom!
Eve even utilizes Mavis against the "wrong cops". They are so outmatched they don't know what hit them.
I love the interplay between Eve and Peabody. I love the loyalty of Eve's squad and how they respond when their Lieutentant is threatened.

Every time I finish a book from this series, I wonder how JD Robb will be able to top the next. This one is by far one of my favorites of the series.
