Ohohohoh, this review might be on the longer side for me.
Now to disclaimer - despite what people tag this as - it is NOT a romance . This is a contemporary dealing with complicated relationships, sexism, slut-shaming, cheating, fat-shaming, and other topics. If I have to put it in a specific subgenre, I'd say it's coming-of-age as Molly is trying to find herself and move past her mistakes and hopefully work toward being a better person.
Not that it works out well for her. Patrick complicates things, and honestly is pretty much an ass most of the time. Even in the flashbacks when they were dating, he was guilt-tripping and gaslighty about her maybe wanting to go to a boarding school who sought her out because of how good she was at track. Now maybe he has issues because of his father's death years earlier, but the way he treated her like a possession who had a say in what she could go and do with her life was nonsense. And while I can see why she was with Gabe while her and Patrick were broken up, the reason he was into her it seemed at the end is frustrating. Both guys in this book were assholes and need to get their shit together, and NOT date someone they've known their entire life. Also their sister needs to deal with her internalized misogyny that the girl is the problem in the situation were between Molly and her brothers (which is more frustrating when Julia is a lesbian???).
Molly has her own issues of being kind of a dick for how she acts but with all the shit she goes through and how this three siblings (and others) treat her, being manipulated by Patrick in the ways she was because of what he did in pursuing her while she was dating his brother, I kind of get it. But goodness, she is an absolute doormat for both of these brothers. Which makes her shitty in the decisions made.
I did love the friendships she had, people who didn't make her feel bad constantly outside the situation going on. Tessa and her were such good friends, but that didn't end well but at least they parted ways amicably. I'm glad Molly found her passion enough to be a business major. I'll be picking up 9 Days and 9 Nights to see how it ends and if she's grown as a person while away at college.

So I'm not done with this book and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to finish it. I'm absolutely hating it so far. I'm so pissed off by the main character Molly and her actions or lack there of.
Spoilers:
So in the beginning I was rooting for Molly. She messed up but she seemed to regret it. Ran away and "repented" for her "crimes". What I don't get is that she ignored her best friend for an entire year, who attempted to get in touch with her.
Then she comes back and you find out that her "mother" is a shady a**hole. But that just hangs in the air un-resolved (at this moment I have not finished the book). "Oh babe, I ruined your life by publishing your mistakes for the world to see and despite watching people in the town harass you because of my actions all I have to say about it is 'I'm a writer'".
You also find out that Molly slept with Gabe, who at the time was her EX-BOYFRIEND brother, and broke Patricks heart. So at this point I'm rooting for her even more. She didn't really cheat on her boyfriend, he had broken up with her when it happened. She just didn't tell him about it when they got back together. (I see how that is an issue, but not enough to cause the type of backlash she got).
BUT here is the kicker, the thing that really pisses me off is that after ALL of that she is doing it again. Her and Gabe are now together and she is kissing Patrick behind Gabes back. The first time I get it, I think he kissed her and she stopped it. (only to kiss him back.. but whatever) but to let it keep happening... just come on. Like she WENT through some shit already, why is she putting herself in the position to make it even worse?
AND she doesn't seem to actually care about either of the guys cause she knows that her actions are going to hurt them but she is doing it anyway. I just don't get it. It also doesn't seem like she is going to learn from it. She feels bad but it doesn't stop her. I just.. Ugh. I dont think I can keep reading, it hurts to much to watch her screw up..
End Spoilers.
I'm going to try and finish it, but it's hard and I don't know if I'll be able to manage it..

Why would she cheat twice with both brothers? She really screwed herself in the end. Talk about learning from your mistakes!

I read this book so long ago that I can barely remember so I’ll just write about what I can remember.
The main character, Molly, is so unbearably annoying. It’s written in a way where we are supposed to feel bad for her and, In the beginning, I did feel sympathy but then she keeps making mistakes and we are still supposed to feel bad for her??? Like how are you going to paint her as the victim when she was the one in the wrong and keeps making mistakes that caused her so much pain in the past???
Like the book ends the way it started. With her cheating and everyone hating her. The whole story was pointless and she didn’t even learn her lesson. All the “learning” and “reconciliation” that is done throughout the book is thrown in the garbage just for her to make the same mistakes and STILL NOT LEARN FROM IT!!??
All the characters are annoying and so deeply flawed. Some of those flaws are mentioned and talked against and some are just completely skipped over. I’m looking at you toxic ass mom.
The only good thing about this book was the writing but honestly the more the shitty plot just overtook anything “good” that could have been in this book.
Writing this reminded me how angering this book was so I’m going to go an read a nice book so I don’t throw my phone across the room.

Molly and Patrick dated all through high school until after an argument, Molly found unexpected comfort with Patrick's brother, Gabe. Not only had this caused the demise of Molly and Patrick's relationship, but it made Molly a target for everyone. After Molly finds out that her mother dusted off the writer's block she had been experiencing and use Molly's teenage love life as her next big book, Molly feels truly alone in her town. Thankfully, Molly connects with Gabe during her last summer home before college and although Molly is grateful to be with Gabe, she can't ignore the feelings creeping back for Patrick.
This was a fun, light hearted read. I really enjoyed that the chapters were only a day long covered all 99 days of Molly's summer. To be I had a clear brother who I favored and couldn't quite understand Molly's confusing. It wasn't until the end that I was a little bit let down with some of the truths that came out and how the story ended.

Who needs a love-triangle when you can have a love quadrilateral and then just screw up your reputation even more by being a slut... #sorrynotsorry
This book made me very angry. Some characters just do not need to do anything except stay locked up in a room forever and never come out.

This book made me angry!
The protagonist, Molly, just kept making the same mistakes. None of the characters had any development.
I knew what was going to happen since the beginning of the book, but I kept reading because I had hope that maybe I would be wrong. NOPE. I was correct. I really did want to love this book, the plot intrigued me, but I just can't.
The plot was jumpy. I was confused often about when something was a flashback or not. Also the ending! Nothing was resolved. NOTHING. She literally just hut the people around her again and then left. Again.
There were so many times when I would just groan and roll my eyes because of something Molly was doing, or thinking. I think I could have enjoyed this more if there was a different protagonist. I just kept getting too angry at Molly to really enjoy this book at all.

Wowza the misogyny and harassment in this book was rough (especially cause it feels like it didn’t get very resolved?). I like the work the main character (Molly) did to try and repair the friendships that she damaged, and that she did seem to feel remorse for the mistakes she made. Really just wanted Molly to go figure things out with her mom and stop continuously hurting her friend and falling for the bs with the manipulator. Thank the heavenssss she did not end up with either of those boys in the end. They all needed some intense therapy and time away from one another. What is this, a game of tug-o-war?!
Graphic: Bullying, Misogyny
Moderate: Infidelity, Sexism, Toxic relationship
If I'm being completely honest here, I only picked up this book because I loved the cover and this inside cover thing too. The summary of the book was super confusing, so I had low expectations. I was completely shocked when this book turned out to be actually really amazing. The concept for this book is so cool. I loved how the author wrote the chapters like days and still included the day even if nothing happened and it would be like two sentences long. Also- the author is really great at telling back stories. She transitioned wonderfully from present to the past with out it being awkward at all. One of the only problems I had with this book was that the main character Molly always talks about how much weight she's gained, but on the cover of the book there's the skinniest girl ever!!! There were a few other things that I wasn't too happy about but not even important enough to mention.
Over all- this was a very good book surprisingly enough. It's cool looking at all the pictures after because you see that they're not random, they're scenes from the book!
I wish I had read this in the summer though... This is a summer book
