The writing was a bit choppy and it dragged it spots but it certainly was an interesting story about early life in Northern Alberta. I know some of my Grandma's stories about life in Northern Ontario are quite something too.

I can see why this book is so beloved! Written over 70 years ago, but there is very little that dates it. I would compare it to Little House on the Prairie—it has that same wholesomeness in a very unforgiving natural environment. The romance between Kathy and Mike is just sweet enough to warm your heart.

I love this book it was so great! Kathy, the main charcter, is a strong female character and smart. Mike is also a great person! The story is very descriptive and interesting! Even though I read it for a class I loved it!

This is indeed an old-fashioned love story, based on the actual experiences of a young girl whom the authors had met. Not only did they find her story inspiring, but realized that it paralleled their own in a way. My sister shared that Mrs Mike, originally published in 1947, had been a favorite of our mother’s. Knowing that made it special! A tale of life in the Canadian wilderness, Mrs. Mike brimmed with hard realities. The fierce natural elements impacted daily life, as did interaction with native Indians. Creature comforts were minimal; there was no electricity or running water. Given that the latest drugs tended to be unavailable, a timely response to medical emergencies was almost impossible. Yet the fabric of the everyday is positively set forth, laced with joys and sorrows, tragedy and healing. Despite its traditional tone, Mrs. Mike has endured to become somewhat of a classic, as it continues to strike a chord through the generations. This coming-of-age adventure story of courage and perseverance has been read and often reread, offering inspiration across the ages. I learned from delving into the bios of the authors that many girls who were teenagers in the 70’s named their daughters Cathy after the heroine! Close to four stars.

This book didn't have as much "survival" as originally thought it would. Still a great book.

I read this book in High School and it is one of the ones I still love to this day. Very good read.

I found this book to be engrossing and full of depth. Mrs. Mike is a young bride of a Mountie who moves into the most remote parts of northern canada to be with her husband. She lives among Indian natives in the wilderness. This is a hard life and the reader is brought through many emotional experiences. I found the characters to be engaging and the writing of events to be well-thought out accounts of a difficult life. I highly recommend this book --- but keep in mind that it is an emotional read.

I LOVED this book! The authors make you feel like you are right there! They characters are awesome!
