I HATE not finishing books but this is just. Bad. Bad writing, AWFUL dialogue, flat characters... I can't drag myself through this anymore.

This book was difficult for me to get into in the beginning. But as I read more and got more familiar with the characters' personalities, it was easier for me to enjoy and really get into the stories. The multiple points of view helped give different meaning to the story, as I saw it through multiple people's eyes. I am excited to see how the story will end.
A hard DNF from me. The writing was grating on me from page 1 and didn’t get any better by the time I was 50 pages in.
Stilted writing, weirdly shallow characters who you never care about, odd and random moments of the story which seem like random side thoughts of the author. I first thought the weirdness was purposeful and would resolve and I’m left wishing I had not finished this book. There’s so much good fantasy out there and this one is not good fantasy.

While I did find bits of this to be very slow, I really liked the premise and the banter between all the characters. The cliff hanger also makes me interested to see where the story is going to go from here.

I love stories of gods, mortals and prophecies - this one did not disappoint. There is a lot of buildup of what is to come in the sequel but there’s a lot of action and backstory to keep you interested. The characters are great (especially Dolt the horse) and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

you know what? This turned out a lot better than I thought it would at the start.
It's not really the sub-genre of fantasy that I personally enjoy, but it was a fun read and I am actually curious about how the story continues.

Couldn’t finish it, this was promising but oof no. This book is so smashed together with different concepts it’s dizzying and bordering on nonsensical.
I love Kades other series so I was excited but this fell short.
I was very interested in the foresters and they may have become a bigger thing further on but despite how this book was described it was not what I wanted out of it.

I took a week off from reading and this was the perfect book to ease me back in. This is a fun fantasy adventure story with some great humour which made me laugh. You know those Disney movies that feature horses that have as much hilarious personality as the main characters? Well you should read this for Dolt alone. He's a scream.
This story features some of my favourite tropes of prophecies and chosen ones, and I love how the author plays around with them. Also, extra points for including meddling Gods. They always add an extra level of enjoyment for me. Ms. Kade has crafted a unique take on such traditional tropes and I honestly had no idea where this story was going to go.
There were plenty of likeable characters in here. My favourites being Aaslo for his stubborness and determination and Myropa for her sweetness and her role within the story. While it took me a few chapters to get into this; I was fully invested in these characters well before I reached the halfway point.
Along with a great cast of characters and an original plot, I absolutely adored the dry and often morbid humour in here. This could have been a much darker story given some of the things that happen, but that humour and sarcasm kept it lighter and the story flew by. I need the sequel ASAP!!!
