I went into this with zero expectations, i knew nothing about this book or the author, all i knew was that it was a short read and could help me meet my reading goals. it had me in the first half i won’t lie, it was intense, gripping and very terrifying, imagine being stuck in a small room with your family that you barely spend time with. an alcoholic father, an annoying brother and an argumentative mother. I wouldn’t be able to deal with it either.

However, in the second half, i was not enjoying it, introducing Amy in randomly as part of the delusions was confusing, as well as the random tongue Mel managed to snag? Who was that from? Why didn’t we get more context? Then the random snake that kills her brother? Why? I don’t get it. I think it could’ve been better.

This book was literal perfection.

Possibly my favourite book of this year so far, and definitely my favourite horror story of all time.

We Need to Do Something is the perfect mash-up of domestic horror, post-apocalyptic horror and the fear of the unknown. I devoured this book in one sitting as I was so engrossed in the story and sucked in to the claustrophobic atmosphere.

There's a lot of gore in this book so be prepared for that, and there's one scene that has genuinely disturbed me for life. I was telling my boyfriend about it and even he told me to stop talking about it as it was freaking him out!!

Watching the characters get slowly more and more desperate was so harrowing and tense, I never knew what was coming next and it definitely went darker than I expected.

I also loved the balance of revealing information to the reader vs. keeping the mystery alive. I was absolutely desperate to know more about what was going on outside the bathroom but sometimes knowing too much can ruin the horror for me, whereas this book kept me in suspense the whole way through and then hit me with a perfect ending.

I'm shocked that I can be so obsessed with something that only took a few hours to read but here we are. A new all time favourite of mine!

For a story that takes place entirely in one small room it certainly holds your attention throughout. Read it in one sitting and I’m still not really sure what happened, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Interested to see the screen adaptation of this. Maybe I’ll enjoy that more.
I understand what the author was trying to do here but I needed more. I would have loved for it to be a novel or for less repetitiveness and more depth would have also worked too.
The amount of talks about farts and ‘sis’ really took me out of the story and annoyed me a lot.

I’m in shock. I had high expectations for this book…somehow it SURPASSED them. And I can’t even explain how. I am clueless as to how to explain this book. A family of four, trapped in a bathroom… you know the basic premise. But the feeling it gives you…ugh. You feel the characters emotions…the claustrophobia, the slow decent into madness, the terror. And two scenes caused me to almost throw up…not from gore but just from what was actually happening. The ending. Omg the ending. Ignore the negative reviews and go read this book. You will DEVOUR it.
