I feel like at least excerpts of this, if not the entire book, should be required reading for US History this year. Our textbook has barely ten pages with a lot of pictures for the destruction of so many groups of people. It's really unacceptable.

The stories in this book are devastating, but important to know. I was shocked by how much information is in this single book, and frankly how short it is- though it is long made even longer by what an emotional read it is. It is an overview of history, and I find myself ready to read more in depth about these tribes, leaders, cultures, and people having finished it. The scope of the books is incredible. The pictures, direct quotations from tribal leaders in this time, and the oral story-telling narrative style make it unique.

I can understand why people needed to take breaks when reading this book. It is in a way another testimony of how cruel colonizers have been. And how greed commited a genocide.

A detailed look into the unimaginable, immoral, unjust treatment of tribe after tribe by the US government from 1860-1890. Reads like a history book with vivid imagery. Many themes recognizable today, in a scary way. This was not that long ago, and shows how young modern day America is and how much has changed. As gruesome as the actions were from both sides, one side was always the oppressor and one side was always the oppressed, making no response seem inappropriate in order to survive, and barely survive anyone did. BIPOC Lives Matter.

One of the most heartbreaking books I have ever read. I lost track of the massacres mentioned. Our history is fucked.
