Heartbreak for Hire was a cute rom-com that moved along at a quick pace. While this book was a bit convoluted and nothing groundbreaking, it was an enjoyable way to pass the time. The steaminess was a bit much for me but I'm fine with just skimming/skipping those sections.
Brinkley was an interesting character. She has a crazy job (getting revenge on men for a variety of sins) that created some unique scenarios in the book. Brinkley was stuck in her current situation and afraid to take a risk to achieve her dreams. Mark comes along and shakes that all up. He's a part-time professor who goes to work alongside Brinkley after being a former target of hers. They have an intense attraction but there's also some animosity there because of the initial meeting. As they work together they develop a friendship and then later start a relationship. They do have a lot of petty arguments that really made Brinkley seem immature.
There are a lot of story lines in this book. Brinkley and her mom drama, Brinkley and her boss drama, Brinkley and her second guessing her career, Brinkley and her art, Mark and his grandfather's ambition, Mark and his job, then the primary love story. It all was a little much to bring together.
Overall, this book was an easy, enjoyable read. It could have used some tightening up with the story lines and I could have used a little less steam and a little more communication.

I stayed up way too late reading this book I didn’t really like all that much.
Brinkley had it all going for her except she was dating a guy who thought little of her. They call him an Ego in the book but I think it was a narcissist and borderline emotionally abusive. There was a public breakup and this woman Margo finds her and invites Brinkley to work at her company Heartbreaks for Hire. A group of four woman who will take that man who had too big of an Ego, Cheated, was a Player, or a Grifter.
One of her targets becomes her coworker, but they’re both using each other while they fall in love. It’s a case of everyone doing what they think others expect of them, not what would make them happy. Also Margo believes giving Brinkley this job will help her get over Aiden, but what she needs is therapy, not revenge. I very much disliked the Margo character. I thought she was more “master manipulator” than friend or boss.

This book was a quick and entertaining one to listen to as an audio book. It was light, funny and hooked me from the beginning. There were some steamy moments and some funny awkward ones too.
This book was fun, flirty and different than other contemporary romance books I’ve read. I loved the dynamics between the two main characters, Brinkley and Mark, and the concept of hiring a service to put bad people in their place. I do feel like the ending was a bit rushed and wish there were a few more chapters to see how everything turned out as well as an epilogue! Overall, I flew through and really enjoyed this rom-com. 3.5 stars rounded up.
This was good. I'm glad she started to figure out and work through her issues throughout the book
Brinkley grew without a father and a cold, academic mother who was more concerned about her career than her child. Disappointing her mother Brinkley decides she wants to switch majors to art. Later Brinkley's bad break up with a boyfriend who was using her to gain connection in the academic world Brinkley leaves college and she is cultivated by the owner of Heartbreak for Hire, which is a company where people (mostly women) hire someone to take down a troublesome male. This is Brinkley's perfect vengeance against egoistic men. She will use the money she earns with these jobs to save for an art gallery of her own but her last job was someone that doesn't seem to fit the bill and she is instantly attracted to him. She runs out on the job only to have him show up later when the owner decides to add men to the company. Can she really trust him as a partner and is the owner *really* on the side of women or is she just using downtrodden women to further her profit?
I tend to dislike romances where sex and lust comes first before love. However, I did like the part as the women employees at Heartbreak for Hire start to question their work and whether or not it is helping their self-esteem as the owner claims. I liked how it showed that it's not only men that take advantage of emotionally distraught women with poor self esteem, which is my take the owner of Heartbreak for Hire. Ultimately the saving grace of this story for me personally was the character development as some of the women decide to quit and pursue their dreams rather than continue to fall prey to the owner's manipulations as well as Brinkley's decision to confront her feelings of inadequacy that lead her to self-sabotage herself.

I loved Brinkley from the very beginning. She's smart, sassy, and doesn't back dow. Mark was great, but needed to be slapped sometimes. I really did love them together. A great story!
