For a book that's only 320 pages, this took me a solid week to get through which is uncommon since I usually read a whole book in 1 go. I just got bored and uninterested halfway through and was a bit of a slug to get through.

And I'll be honest, I had no idea this was an Emma retelling until I looked at other reviewers which in hindsight makes way more sense now, with characters and motivations

I really liked this take on Emma.  It put a very reasonable modern high school twist on the matchmaking drive of the main character, without dipping into the sketchy privacy issues that came up in the very similar  (but definitely NOT as good) "The Code of Love and Heartbreak".  I also really enjoyed the  food notes (mmm dan tat and boba...) and bits with the matchmaking auntie.  I could wish for a bit more spark between Gigi and Kyle but their friendship felt legit so it's a minor quibble since that's the case in the original as well.

3.5/5 stars | to be honest, i was bored the first half of the book and almost dnf'd it but the second half it started to pick up and i was intrigued! the romance and drama is what kept me going. i also loved reading about a little bit of chinese culture. i absolutely loved how the main characters friend is filipino because i am filipino myself. i thought it was nice that the author put in words about filipino food/culture because i rarely see it in books! overall, despite half of the book not intriguing me i still enjoyed it and liked how it ended! thank you penguin teen for sending me an ARC! :)
